Raul unfortunately has become like Beckham over the last three years and was playing on reputation. I remember the story where he was dropped for Owen and he went over the managers head and complained to the president hence Owen being dropped and Raul going back into the team.

If Capello can motivate Raul to concentrate on the football he can get back to his best.

Really I never heard about that story but at the sametime im not surprised because:

A. Owen stole the "European Football Player Of The Year" Award fomr him in 2001.

B. Owen shouldnt have taken his place, He should of took Ronaldos ( Over-rated Striker #1 Almost as bad as Miroslav Klose.

You can guess it from my username, but I will always support Raśl because I've seen every match he's played since he was 17 and I know him good.
Raśl is the best, even though he's a shadow of what he once was. As you said, he should have won the Golden Ball in 2001, but Owen got it, still don't know why (well yes, spanish players are never awarded with this trophy). But Raśl is a team hard worker, and he's by far the man who gives more for Real madrid and Spain. He gives a 120% of himself. Since Ronaldo arrived, Raśl started to play more and more near the midfiled, and that's why he doesn't score as much as he used to, but he does other kind of job just perfectly. Besides, he's the soul of the team, and that must be said. A team with no soul is not a team.

Raul_For_Life, easy on this one. Ronaldo being over rated? Shocked I agree he is not like he is used to be, but it is hard to find a good striker as Ronaldo in his best. Henry and Eto'o have work to do to reach where he had reached.
As for Spain, I think Torres will be your next biggest striker. If I was the spanish coach I would rotate Raul and Villa to partner with Torres.

As the best striker in the world now, it is Henry followed by Eto'o. If Ronaldo becomes fit, he can take back the spot of best striker in the world.

I think Torres is very good but I honestly think Villa is Spain's best striker. He's more consistent IMO and Torres has tended to blow alot of easy opportunities.

That not withstanding, I appreciate Raul's work ethic. He is indeed the heart of the team. Not the force he once was true but he contributes in different ways.

he has lost his way the past few seasons.

he used to be a monster in front of goal. i think maybe the injuries affected him.
