Glenn Roeder enjoyed a happy return to Upton Park as Obafemi Martins grabbed his first Newcastle United goal in a 2-0 victory over West Ham United.

Martins weighed in with the second goal 15 minutes from time after Damien Duff's crisp finish had put the visitors ahead five minutes into the second half.

The win marked a sweet return to East London for Roeder, who had spent two years in charge of The Hammers before leaving in August 2003.

Martins, searching for his first Newcastle goal, had the opening chance of the game, but he headed meekly at Roy Carroll after wriggling free to meet Duff's corner.

West Ham responded much more fiercely when, after Matthew Etherington was scythed down by Scott Parker, Carlos Tevez curled his free kick against the crossbar.

a great win for Newcastle. more of it boys!! and mint to see martins on the scoresheet

I must admit I'm feeling a bit relieved with the away result!!
We all knew it would take Martins time to find his Premiership feet, sounds like he's settling down, and the pace on the lad is immense.
Looking forward to plenty more goals this season!!
Shame about the injury to Shay Given, but I think Steve Harper will be able to step up

Well done Newcastle a fantastic result and 2-0 flattered West Ham I listened to the game on BBC radio Newcastle and Mick Lows said that Gabbidon and Ferdinand wre shocking and watching on football first they were. It could easilly have been 3 or 4.

Despite my critisism of West Hams defence take nothing away from our brilliant team perforance. Ramage was outstanding and I hope he plays against Liverpool Moore solid Carr who I havecritisised in the past had a class game keep it up Stevie. Parker Mr consistency was fantastic again. Our midfield oozed class/quality Emre Duff Parker and Milner all played well I was delighted that Duffer got off the mark.

Also well done to our strikeforce Shola battled away bravely and well done Oba martins people like Malcolm Mcdonald (off the 3 legends) have wronglly critisised you as it takes time for any player to settle into there new environment he was outstanding made 1 scored 1 you cannot ask for anymore than tht. Also Sibierski was oustanding hen he came on he looks a better player than I gave him credit for.

Finaly the Hammrs fans for critising and slagging off Glenn are idiots and he shouldn't have appologised as he did nothing wrong. It sounded like the ref had a mare. Harewood should ahve so a straight red afetr his horror tackle. Also Shay good luck on your speedy recovery. Mind you Scotty was slightly fortunate to avoid a second yellow. Well done Newcastle and whatever the outcome at Anfield all I ask for is quality performances likethat then at the end of the day win lose or draw you cannot ask for anymore. Well done lads and keep it up.

Your certainly right there mate, I'm disgusted with the morons chanting " You should of turned the machine off" ect. Shame the idots at the Doctor Martins Lower couldn't get behind there own team.

I myself applauded Roeder, and was annoyed that a lot of Hammers didn't show the dignity that he did whilst he was our manager. He may not be a top manager, but he's a top bloke. He's not a Lampard, a Defoe or an Ince. He didn't slag off the team when he left. He didn't walk out on us.

As for the waving, good on him, our fans were slagging him off, why can't he give something back?

Lastly, you said about Harewood should of got a straight red, rubbish mate. The ball was there to be won. Though, I wish Given a speedy recovery.

M.O.M for me was Parker, bossed the midfield. With Hargreaves out I'd play Parker for the upcoming qualifiers...
