Argentinian starlet Fernando Gago has unveiled his desire to move to Real Madrid, with the Spanish titans reportedly dispatching club officials to Buenos Aires to negotiate a transfer for the Boca Juniors midfielder.

Gago has been linked with a wide range of Europe's top clubs over the past year, with his displays in last summer's Fifa World Youth Championships alerting potential suitors to his qualities.

Chelsea's Frank Arnesen is believed to be one onlooker who took a keen interest in Gago as he helped Argentina to the youth crown, but Real are now understood to have made their move by sending Franco Baldini to Buenos Aires on Wednesday in an attempt to hammer out a deal for the 20-year-old.

Gago has shone during his short time at the Bombonera but now appears to be ready to leave his homeland with the Bernabeu his destination of choice in a potential £12 million switch.

"It is a source of pride that one of the best clubs in the world has the desire to have me in its team," Gago told Marca.

"It means that I am playing well and it is an extra motivation to continue my level.

"It would be a dream to play for Real Madrid."

Gago has also been encouraged by Sergio Aguero's early success in La Liga following his compatriot's own multi-million pound move to the Spanish capital with Atletico Madrid over the summer.

"I would love to play in the Spanish Liga and it has very good players," Gago added.

"There is Aguero, who has adapted very fast and will be one of the stars of the championship."

Gago, who has been compared to former Real star Fernando Redondo, could well join Los Merengues as another midfield reinforcement alongside Emerson and Mahamadou Diarra, and Boca president Mauricio Macri has admitted he has a fight on his hands to keep hold of the highly-rated star.

"It is very difficult to say to Gago, although he is very happy at Boca, that it is not a possibility," said Macri on Argentinian television.

Never heard of him, is he anygood? Is he worth £12 million?

Wow, that is one thing I highly disrespect about teams. The fact that they will just buy the best players and try to win everything in one year.
Football is not about that, it is about the team and how they play, Real Madrid are just a smaller Chelsea. They think they are gods because of all the money, and they think they have the right to criticise any team. It is just appalling.
And I laugh, because I clearly remember the statement the Madrilenan President made at the start of the season
Directed to Capello
"We will win the league and the Champions League, I will buy you Messi, Iniesta, C. Ronaldo and Robben, and we shall win the league for a few years to come"
I still laugh at that most pathetic comment.
And guess what? He got none of those players, there is an incredibly slim chance of you winning either of those competitions.
You know why he thought that? Just because he has money coming out of his ears, he thought he could make Real Madrid the best team in the world.
News for you, they are nowhere near.

Madrid have signed Higuain from River Plate for 8m pounds, Marcelo (a brazilian player) for about 4m pounds and will sign Gago for about 12m pounds.

Then Madrid will spend 24m pounds to sign players during this window transfer.

More news for you, our president never said he was gonna sign Messi, Iniesta or Cristiano Ronaldo. The pathetic thing is that you have to make up things. Nobody here believes we are gods, but that's maybe what you think we think since you seem to be jealous don't know why.

Gago is great and worths 12millions pounds, believe me. I watched some matches of Boca during la Copa Sudamericana, the Sudamerica Recopa and 5 or 6 argentinian league matches. I know its not much but he and Rodrigo Palacio (from Boca too, but a striker) are players who I wouldnt care about money to sign, they're class

Real might have signed players in the past few years that are finished products, but there have been years where players have come through the ranks and succeeded. No harm buying players if you are capable of doing so, which club in the world would not want a player of calibre in it's ranks.
Personally, i feel that any club has the right to sign a player, then its up to the player to decide where to sign for..
REAL is not only a club that gets the players simply by using cash to draw them in, no offense but most clubs do so nowadays.REAL is a club that desires winning, its a club that is enriched with history in its pages. Regardless of what's mentioned before, there are players who go for the money-like a certain ex-Arsenal centre back, but there are players who go for the trophies, for the glory and sucess. These are players that will reject potential money deals to sign for potential clubs, clubs looking towards the future..
Pre-season, REAL did sign some "senior" players that some would rate as finished and accomplished. Somehow another, i feel that these players are mearly stop gaps to hold the team together and avoid another potentially disastrous season. The last 3 signings Los Blancos made were all young players, whether they will turn into stars, still remain unproven. Time will tell whether the board have been wise in the transfer market or not..
