Is this the same Kelly Smith whom played in the WUSA here in the states for the Philadelphia team? If so, she was a delight to watch when I saw her play, I was very impressed. Unfortunately she got a knock in the game and had to leave but not before scoring a goal and assisting on another.

i went to bristol vs Arsenal on sunday and she came off the bench, scored and set up a goal. she completely improved Arsenal the second she came on. she's amazing. you're right, she's a delight to watch. and seems really nice from when ive spoken to her. LEGEND! |

yeah shes very good but wasn't playing last night cos she picked up an injury on sunday. she used to play for birmingham but moved to Arsenal in the summer cos birmingham lost their sponsorship from birmingham city and were going to go kaput. luckily someone stepped in (i think one of the player's fathers) and gave them some money. it was enough to save the team but not enough to pay the players this year and at first they only had 4 players re-sign. its awful when the men's clubs do this to their women's team, just because they dont make as much money for the club. leeds utd, Man Utd and cardiff are some other clubs that stopped giving money to their women's teams. some survived by getting other sponsorship (well done empiredirect for sponsoring leeds) but others weren't so lucky. anyway, on a lighter note, COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!! KELLY U LEGEND!!!!!! |

I am very happy to have someone on the forum that takes an active interest in Womens football, and follows all the games. Stick around Katie, because this section relies on members like you to help promote womens football.

cheers O DOGG!
im very glad to have a place to discuss women's football! just a shame about those ignorant people that come on here to slag of the women's game. i love football so much and we have so many quality female players, we could do with more people promoting the women's game. xx |

I totally agree Katie. What chauvanistic naivety and self indulgence.
I lot of lass's love their football as much as we rock apes and deserve to have an opportunity to contribute to the wonderfull game of football. You just ignore the self righteous bleetings of those who would question such rights and know that many of us are behind you 100% and commend your dedication to the cause and applaud your fine stand. Well done!!! |

The LOTB team also agrees, Katie - women's football is badly under-rated and should have a lot more media coverage on it, then maybe the ignorant people who badmouth it would actually know what they were talking about and revise their views.
I think the difference between men's and women's football bears a parallel with the difference in tennis. Yes, admittedly the men's game will always be faster and involve more strength - that is down to a basic biological difference in the sexes. BUT the women's game can showcase just as much skill, if not more! Kelly Smith's touch is equal to that of the major male players. In tennis people have sometimes got bored of the fast, aggressive men's game where a big serve seals the point - they now prefer the exciting rallies and crafted shots that the women's game offers. Although, equally, the strength and speed of the top women's players is on the up all the time. The same is true of football - the women's game is a joy to watch and displays just as many talented players as the men's. England were awesome on Thursday night, and it's great to see Kelly getting back to top form - she is an absolute legend. LOTB Team |

I don't think you can categorise most males in that light however, alot of members on here showed full backing of the ladies European campaign here, and will continue to have our backing for future championships.
We encourage you to get as many female members to join up here as possible. What better way to promote the game, than on this website? The website has featured in the UK's biggest papers twice in the last 2 months - so maybe we will be able to get something for the ladies if you can get enough to sign up. Stick around and continue giving your views, and I am sure people will start taking notice and gain an interest in the ladies game. You have full backing from the Admin team here at football.co.uk. |
