There's no real difference in meaning at all.

It's just another way of pronouncing Gunner, and Arsenal fans just began to name themselves Gooners.

some say it stems after the goonies movie came out in the eighties and other fans started calling us gooners instead of Gunners, another theory is that our 'firm' were called the gooners and it spread from there-but i dont really know for definate.

It's like, why call the Manchester United fans, 'Mancs'? Because Manc comes from the Manc part in Manchester.

Just like Gunners has been changed over the amount of years by Arsenal fans to Gooners. Almost the same word but a friendly spin on it to make it more unique for Arsenal fans.

I've never called myself a Gunner. Sounds like I'm involved with some sort of paramilitary gang.
