Stuttgart moved to within two points of Bundesliga leaders Schalke following a 1-0 win at home to Borussia Monchengladbach.

The victory elevates Stuttgart to joint second place alongside Werder Bremen, where they now enjoy a narrow one-point advantage over reigning champions Bayern Munich.

The Swabians' match-winner was Brazilian striker Cacau as he scored after just six minutes to condemn the visitors to the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion to their ninth defeat in 14 games.

In Germany's other game Bayer Leverkusen bounced back from their Uefa Cup defeat to Tottenham to beat Energie Cottbus 3-1 at home.

Cottbus had hit back through Vlad Munteanu (51) after Sergei Barbarez's opener on 19 minutes as they looked to prevent their opponents from overtaking them in the table.

However, Bayer moved into tenth place as goals from Simon Rolfes (66) and Ukrainian striker Andrei Voronin (80) secured the victory.

Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 Energie Cottbus
Stuttgart 1-0 Borussia Monchengladbach
Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
Hamburg 1-2 Bayern Munich
Hannover 96 1-0 Mainz
Hertha Berlin 2-1 Alemannia Aachen
Werder Bremen 3-0 Arminia Bielefeld
Wolfsburg 1-1 Nurnberg

Ive watched the Bundasliga more closely this season and its becoming a really interesting title race. Probably the most open league in Europe at the moment. Im not really supporting anyone in partilcular although I like Hamburg but theyre having a complete disaster of a season!

"Hertha Berlin"
Always brakes my tounge if I read that in english. It's just Hertha or Hertha BSC Berlin. Hertha Berlin sounds like a retarted person's speaking.

Anyways I don't think Schalke, Stuttgart and Berlin have much of a chance. This is gonna be between Werder and Bayern.
