[quote="SyCo"]I see alot of young people like myself want to become football coaches, which i think is great. I am currently doing an NVQ 2 in Football which will get me the FA Level 1 badge. I've been studying for two weeks with only one real day intense learning. My tutor is an academy coach at Bolton Wanderers and holds the UEFA A Licence. I know people who have done the level one and one person who is almost done with their leve 2 and are doing the NVQ 2 for more experience. We haven't really done any coaching as of yet aside from the proper warm ups needed for different ages and for goalkeepers. However, if you want to become a coach, consider the following skills and qualities a coach should posses:

Were are you studying your NVQ 2 in Football only i'm thinking about going inot coaching over the next year or so

hi im a newbie to the site and am a level 2 qualified coach, i am hoping one day to progress onto the level 3 (Pro licence) but am restricted because of
1) the full residential week required and 2) cost as i would not recieve and funding.

I feel that i have learnt a lot and been able to put this back into the footballing community and now feel that i look at the game in a different way.

i will be more than willing to help anyone who needs any help and advice on progressing at least to the level 2 badge

black,
The way to get funding is to join a Club adn offer to do a seasons coaching if they fund you through the qualification. The Club cant lose because they are getting a Level 2 coach into their Club ( especially if they want to go Charter Standard) and IF you didnt pass the Level then the loss is yours!!. The cost of the course can be offset against the cost that you would have charged for coaching.

I'm still reading mate!

All these courses can be confusing but I would suggest that the first stop for advice would be your local County FA. Each of them has a Football Development Officer (FDO) whose role is to help grassroots football teams, managers, coaches and clubs. They will be able to advise on what each of the courses entails and, possibly, sources of funding.

I don't know where your location is but put your County followed by 'FA' into Google and you'll find their website and contact details.

Good luck!

Ameer,
Yes, the first badge (Level1) is indeed the 1st4sport Level 1 certificate in coaching football.

Residential training is where you live at the place you take your coaching badges with the other candidates for intensive training. It is mainly used only for UEFA A and B. Usually you take Level 1 and 2 over a the course of a week or a few weekends but although residential is quicker it MUCH more expensive!

There are many coaching awards although the mainstream route from A to B is:
Level 1
Level 2
Uefa 'B' (sometimes called Level 3)
Uefa 'A'
UEFA PRO

Depending on what level you wish to coach at will determine what qualifications you need.
Chelsea manager will need UEFA PRO
Professional league club coaches will need UEFA A or B
Academy coaches can coach with a Level 2
Charter Standard Junior sides with a Level 1

Hope this helps and sorry about the delay posting!

Thanks cshipley that I really helpful I want to get to the uefa pro license eventually but I will obviously need to do the level 1,2,3 before anything.

Do u know where is the best place to do it, I understand that level 1 is done at clubs training ground like Spurs for example.

Also roughly how long would it take to complete 1,2,3

if you dont mind me asking where are you from? which county? because they will have a local FA wiill frequently run Level 1 and 2 courses throughout the year.

Level 1 takes about 3 weekends or a full week. It is quite a simple course.

Level 2 is similar in length of time but you are assessed about 6 months after the course and have to complete a portfolio, and its the same for Level 3.

Level 1 is easy if not a guarantee to pass and costs about £60 I think I can recall! Its a good place for young coaches to start anyhow!

This post is not aimed at any one person! I would just like to ask everybody to stop the petty squabbling. This forum is for people to learn and for people to give advice etc, so please can it be stopped. I joined this forum to learn and thus far I have, however in the last few days It has mostly been people arguing. I'm 15 and this will sound very silly but GROW UP.
What I would like to ask is What is it like coaching everyday, every morning, how does it feel? I can't wait, and what is it like being an academy coach?

Many thanks
Matt

Hi All

I first took my level 1 in Aug 2003 and passed my level 3 last month, i hope the following info will help.

Level 1
A leadership award aimed at all volunteers at grassroot level, to be honest you have to be a complete numpty to fail, even then you would probably pass. The course mainly consists of 2 full days and 2 evenings (or another full day). The course includes basic emergency first aid, child protection and plenty of drills to give you ideas.

You also have to sit the soccer parent test on the FA website.

Level 2
A totally different course to level 1. 90 hours in total, more technical and skill related upto Small Sided Games (SSG) 6 x 6. The whole course is based on your external topics 2 & 3. Example of topic 2 is 4 v 2, 3 v 1 etc, topic 3 is a SSG.

You can only coach the external topics when you have completed the pack which consists of player profiling, nutrition, team analysis etc.

Level 3
Not as many hours as level 2, but just as intense. The pack consists of preparing a 12 months training schedule for your team and from that 12 month, take 10 weeks out and prepare coaching plans\sessions, these sessions plans are decided after completing 3 match analysis on your team and drafting up the summary.

The pack also includes psychological aspects of football, drugs in football and more.

The drills are based around segments of a game, functional practice, phase of play and SSG which are 8v8. The minimum number you coach is 6 and each session is 20 minutes

Above is a brief description of the courses content, as previously stated the FA website has further details and the knowledge you learn during the course changes the way you watch football and can only help you develop as a coach.

With Level 2 you need to be working with 12/13 year olds, with Level 3 I would say a min age of 16, if you coach younger teams try and affiliate yourself with an older age group – you would benefit greatly.
