Darren Fletcher insists Manchester United's future looks bright, despite the Old Trafford outfit having had an under-achieving season.

The Red Devils are in a transitional phase at the moment after manager Sir Alex Ferguson brought in a few youngsters as he rebuilds for the future.

And with precocious young players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Rooney_79586.shtml'>Wayne Rooney in the squad, Fletcher is confident about United reclaiming their status as the pre-eminent force in English football.

The Scotland international told Sky Sports News: "There are a lot of younger players in the squad now. There is myself, Rooney_79586.shtml'>Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo to mention a few.

"We are definitely building towards the future and all good things have to come to an end.

"The manager is rebuilding like he has rebuilt here before."

Rooney in particular has surprised his team-mates by demonstrating a maturity and confidence beyond his years.

"He's a confident character is Wayne," added Fletcher. "He has belief in his own ability, as do the players and the manager.

"He has had a great season already and is looking to get 20 goals this season and build on it next season."

Fletcher is also refusing to give up the ghost in the battle to finish second in the Premiership, while United also face bitter rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup final.

"We are still battling for second place and there is that FA Cup final for the last game of the season," said the United midfielder..

"We have to win some silverware, that is the minimum you expect at this club. It is something all the players and the manager are striving towards."

fletcher is class, hes come on leaps and bounds and hopefully will secure a place in the squad, i know that SAF is a huge fan of him so hes not likely to dump him.

Its also very good for scotland to have a player playing for such a club like Manchester United.
