March 24 in China
QANTAS SOCCEROOS SQUAD TO PLAY CHINA Michael Beauchamp (FC Nuremberg, Germany), Mark Bresciano (Palermo, Italy), Jacob Burns (Wisla Krakow, Poland), Nick Carle (Newcastle Jets, Australia), Jason Culina (PSV Eindhoven, Holland), Vince Grella (Parma, Italy), Ryan Griffiths (Rapid Bucuresti, Romania), Brett Holman (NEC Nijmegen, Holland), Brad Jones (Middlesbrough, England), Patrick Kisnorbo (Leicester City, England), Scott McDonald (Motherwell, Scotland), Lucas Neill (West Ham, England), Jade North (Newcastle Jets, Australia), Mark Schwarzer (Middlesbrough, England), Shane Stefanutto (Lillestrom, Norway), Mile Sterjovski (Basel, Switzerland), Archie Thompson (Melbourne Victory, Australia), Michael Thwaite (Wisla Krakow, Poland), Mark Viduka (Middlesbrough, England), Luke Wilkshire (Twente, Holland) Very weak squad. A lot of players left out, like Emerton, Skoko, who are fit but didnt want to be picked Also, Viduka, Jones and Scwartzer could be out, due to FA Cup return leg. Very much a fringe squad. Carle and North will get starts, Thompson should if Viduka isnt there, and still might if he is. Goalkeeping wise, if the boro guys cant get out, then i think Federeci would be better than Petkovic. Vukovic i would have, almost as our no.1 over Scwarts (i love him that much) but i think hes got under 23 duty. id love to see mcdonald get a good run, see what he can do in the big time. Anyhow, well see. Grella probably out too. I think Emerton could be rushed in, in defence were not too bad. As long as Beauchamp and Neil are somewhere in the back 4 ill be happy. Probably them 2 at centre, maybe neil out on the left, but im not too keen on Kisnorbo or Thwaite, just yet at this level. North at one full back, and steffanuto on the left full back. Well see, more to come out of this i feel. Certainly the squad will change |

Well chuffed for Nicky, especially after Arnold's previous comments about him. Will be a great test of depth for our squad if nothing else.

perosnally i think nicky carle was chosen because of his rather sizeable a##rse - he will make a great benchwarmer. Archie on the hand will score 14, eclipsing his previos record. Australia 14-1 China Archie Thompson (3', 5', 17', 18', 21', 25'. 26', 41', 46', 54', 61', 72', 81', 92') Sun Xiang 75' |

A good test for some of those guys - quite a few of them have a bit to do to if they want to make the Asian Cup squad. Hopefully Arnie can start to show a bit more too as he's been far from convincing so far.

World Cup stars Vince Grella and Jason Culina have been ruled out the Socceroos' international friendly against China on Saturday through injury.
Socceroos coach Graham Arnold received confirmation the duo would miss the game from their European clubs. Parma defender Grella has been struggling with knee and hamstring problems, while Culina suffered a groin injury while playing for PSV Eindhoven at the weekend. Veteran midfielder Simon Colosimo and Italian-based Carl Valeri have been added to the squad, the bulk of which arrived in Hong Kong for a four-day training camp. |

Midfielder. He's in the lower leagues of Italy with Grosseto. Not sure how low they are though. He's also represented Australia at U-23, U-20 and U-17 level.

actually is quite woeful, ha ha hah ah ah a ROFLMAO from what i am reading "After having ended the regular season in fourth place, and having defeated Sassari Torres in the semi-finals, Grosseto lost the Serie C1/B promotion playoff finals to Frosinone, missing the opportunity to be promoted to Serie B for the first time ever." there not the worst team there. the standard would be low, but around a-league level, teams in that league have the potential to one day play in serie A, so maybe i shouldnt be laughing. i always laugh when i see c1B, or C2b theres a link for the club in italian, i might have a look naa, no team there either. He could be alright, if he gets good game time too. |

Yeah hes pretty crap, definately not international level. Actually a joke that he is even considered to play for a team that made it into the last 16 of the world cup. Seriously would any other international team play someone from serie C? He was born in 1984, which makes him 20 years old i think. Currently plays for Grosseto who are top of their league, and hes been getting regular game time. Amazingly he is actually on loan from inter milan until june this year. Somehow can't see inter wanting to keep him. |
