Los Angeles Galaxy to play Scottish Premier League giants Rangers Football Club on May 23
Los Angeles Galaxy Media Relations

CARSON, Calif. - The Los Angeles Galaxy will play perennial Scottish Premier League champion Rangers Football Club in a friendly on Wednesday, May 23 at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University at Dominguez Hills. This game, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m., will be the Galaxy's first match against international competition in 2007, prior to the club's involvement in July's World Series of Football.

"Galaxy fans are consistently exposed to the best domestic and international players and teams," said L.A. Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. "Rangers bring a competitive team with a passionate fan base and we look forward to having them as our guests."

Rangers, as the club is known the world over, are based in Glasgow, Scotland and are one of the world's most storied clubs. The club has won the Scottish League 51 times since 1891, including 12 titles in fourteen years from 1987-2000, a stretch that included a record tying nine straight championships from 1989-1997. In addition to their domestic success in the league, Rangers have also won the Scottish Cup 31 times, the Scottish League Cup 24 times and have reached the European Cup Final three times, winning the prestigious competition in 1972.

This season, Rangers, who last toured the U.S. prior to the start of the 2002/03 season, find themselves in second place in the Scottish Premier League and reached the last 16 of the UEFA Cup. Featuring stars like Barry Ferguson, the Scotland captain, Croatian international Dado Prso, and high-scoring Scottish forward Kris Boyd, Rangers have not lost in the league so far under Walter Smith, who was appointed manager of the club in January 2007.

"This trip to Los Angeles will provide a good end of season game for the players and our fans in America will enjoy watching the team at close quarters," said Rangers Manager Walter Smith. "The North American Rangers Supporters Association (NARSA) is very passionate about the Club and it will be a pleasure to play in front of them."

The game is included as part of the 2007 Galaxy full season ticket package. Season ticket holders should use their "Bonus Game 2" tickets to gain entry to the match. A pre-sale for the game is currently running for Galaxy half season seat holders, Galaxy six game plan holders, and fans who purchase tickets to the Galaxy's regular season home opener on Thursday April 12 vs. FC Dallas. Individual tickets for the game will be available at regular season single game prices and will go on-sale at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 16.
