I went to the welsh game today- sorry , no pictures from me. Sadly, in spite of good support in a crowd of about 200 the Welsh girls were second best in every department . Couldn't fault their effort but the Poles were stronger and had better movement and passing from midfield. Also their finishing was clinical , especially the giant number 17 who scored twice. The Welsh defence was under pretty constant pressure and Loran Dykes had a very good game. The Polish defence was caught out at times by the pace of Gwennan Harries but the ball never seemed to fall kindly for the Welsh forwards and the Poles had a very good giant keeper. Good luck to the Welsh girls in their other games I cannot imagine that the other two teams will be as sharp up front as the Poles were and hopefully they can do themselves justice.

Looks like I chose the wrong game today then Pat
I'll see Wales against the other 2 in the next few days, but looks like I've missed seeing the sharpest team |

It was just a bit of high kicking - nothing nasty. But the Russian number 8 had been a little naughty before she was fouled - she'd been a bit niggly for a lot of the game - and a few people near the incident shouted something about retribution The crowd was around 30-40 apart from officials, stewards etc. It might have been more if it wasn't so expensive to get in (nowt) This is the number 8 when she wasn't suffering btw |

You're describing me there G Actually, I was walking past the players' entrance to the pitch just before the beginning of second half. No stewards were doing anything, and I nearly bumped into the Russian one (on the left) as she strolled out of the dressing rooms. I stood back to let her pass (then fainted |

Ukraine played a very defensive 4-5-1, scored from a corner and England spent most of the game chasing the results while equalising on the 75th.
Natasha ''tats'' Dowie is a nice girl, I spoke with her at half time as she was suspended today. The weather is hot in Austria today |

Wales 0 Russia 1
Llandudno FC Quite a close game really, not many shots on target - a couple by Wales, but they were easily dealt with by the Russian goalkeeper Kochneva. Russia were the more creative, Nemirskaya and Menyaylova being tricky up front, as opposed to Wales' more "kick and chase" approach. Both defences played well, but the Welsh defence seemed to go to sleep when Russia were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out, towards the touchline. They didn't seem to be prepared for Nikolayeva to attempt to score, more expecting a sort of cross, and her shot comfortably went over everyone and easily beat Nokes in the Welsh goal (65 mins). Lots of hard tackling had left several players needing treatment, and Aime Lee had to go off after 25 minutes. Menyaylova was on the receiving end of several harsh tackles, and her retributing tackle led to her getting the only yellow card of the game near the end. There were appeals for a penalty for Wales near the end when Kochneva had to dive at a player's feet (not sure whose) as the game went into stoppage time, but nothing was given. Unlike shlj, I didn't get to speak to any players, but the ball once landed under my seat, and Akimova thanked me (in Russian) as I gave her the ball I'll have a look to see what photos I took are fit to put here later - not many, I think. |
