Finn Harps have announced that funding of €750,000 has been approved to commence working at the new stadium at Stranorlar.

The Donegal club's shareholders ratified plans for a new ground two years ago, which led to local developers Joseph McMenamin and Sons winning the tender process.

It is hoped that they will begin development in the coming months.

Harps see the move from Finn Park as 'critical' to their future and their ability to stay on the right side of the UEFA Licencing system.

In addition to their stadium plans, the club is also looking to cultivate a thriving youth development structure.

Harps drew 1-1 away to Limerick 37 last night and currently lie fifth in the eircom League of Ireland First Division.

Its about time its been confirmed, they announced it 2 years ago so its good to finally see things are working out. We badly need a new ground atm, Finn Park is in a terrible state and only has 2 stands. Apparently its only going to hold 6000 which is less than now but we never get that sort of attendance so im not too worried about that. It will be good to have seats at the ground too, at the moment theres only about 100 seats!
Its still a few years away but its good to have a new stadium to look forward to

personally hate the idea of seats.
much prefer to roam about the ground.
miss standing at the river end one half then town end second half.
don't think empty seats will add anything to the already poor atmosphere.

I like being able to walk around the ground now, I wouldn't mind seats but Id like some of the new ground to be terraced..like you say its good to be able to walk around the ground the way it is now

As for the atmosphere, apparently they're trying to get a group together to sing and to bring the drummers back..should add a bit of noise to the ground

Seats or no seats, a compact 'wee' ground can generate a good, even great, atmosphere when full. But given last season's average attendance was 428 and the highest home gate was only 700 it's unlikely capacity will be reached!

Can't remember, some website or other. I was surprised at how low the figures were but they compare with the previous season albeit they're a bit lower this year.

Derry won 1-0, lucky blastards! I couldnt get a ticket for the game but Harps were the better team apparently.

While im making this post im as well to mention Harps are playing Cobh in what is pretty much the 1st Division title decider. Theres one point between the teams with 5 games left and both are in great form so the winners will probably go on to win the league. Cobh are unbeaten in something like 28 games while Harps have only lost 1 in 18, with 15 wins so it should be a cracker! Already got my ticket

Yeah going great at the moment, I never made it to Monaghan but I saw some of the pictures, there were more Harps fans than Monaghan fans at the game!!

I havent actually been to a game since the Cobh game, must try and get down next weekend though.

I really didnt think the goal was going to come against Wexford yesterday, I was watching the rugby but keeping up to date with the score, I gave up on about 80 minutes and thought it would just finish 0-0. I checked aertel when the rugby was over and couldnt believe we did it again!!

still looking good but Cobh's form means one lost point and we are probably second.
think there may be another twist yet.

trouble is we are overdue to lose points anytime.
pity our early form was so abysmal.

if we don't go up can see Higgsy going up the road Crying or Very sad

Id imagine thats what he meant but I cant really see him wanting to go back to being an assistant again after such a good season. Im sure theyre would be another few clubs looking at him other than Derry

tenterhooks time again.

i hope those lazy fairweather supporters from the twin towns turn out tonight even though it's televised.

can imagine a big exodus down to kilkenny if the title isn't decided this weekend.

cmon mons.

cmon the harps. Very Happy

previous post implied Derry might soon be looking for a new boss with the best candidate Higgsy. Sad
