It's only a tradition, Barça members didn't want a sponsor on the shirt. But some months ago a majority of the members voted that would accept to have a sponsor, but for the moment the board of directors decided that there was Unicef for the next years.

Unicef is a charity organisation so they dont advertise to make a profit, as far as I know barca are letting them have their logo on the shirt for free so technically its not a sponsor

Not only Barça let them have their logo on the shirt for free, Barça give 1m pounds every year for the next 5 years to Unicef to help the poor children of the world.

Yes socios in spanish, socis in catalan.

Members of Barça can decide because we are the owners of the club, the president and board of directors are only people (members of the club) that win the elections and then they are there 4 years. We don't have an owner like the majority of the football clubs. Only 3 clubs more have the same situation than Barça, that members are the owners: Real Madrid, Athletic de Bilbao and Osasuna.

To vote to choose the president all the members can vote but to decide other things there is a meeting where some members go, about 500 or 1000, that are choosen according to some things like for example that they have to be 18 years old at least and then by a draw. In this meeting the board of directors talk about the economy of the club (for example the budget) and other things like in this case could be if the members that there are in this meeting would accept a sponsor in the shirt and then the members of the meeting vote if they accept all it. And in one of the last meeetings (there is one per season) there was this about the sponsor and the majority of the members that there were voted that they would accept that Barça had a sponsor on the shirt and could get paid.

Socis i think its pronounced like saucisse that is a sausage in french. Very Happy Wink

Thanks it's cool to be imply in a club like that, and the supporters had the choice to do what they want with their club. In France, there is not clubs like that.

Yes I think that Barça, Real Madrid, Bilbao and Osasuna are the only 4 top sports clubs where members are the owners.

Teamris like Man Utd, Chelsea, Milan, Madrid,... would be rich enough without the money of the sponsor too, but they have a sponsor.

some shirts look much better with sponsors though. the current real madrid shirt looks awesome with our sponsor on it. siemens benq that is. Man Utd's sponsor looks [beep!] though, as does sevilla's.

why does Barcelone have not a sponsor on their shirt ?
