WE HAVE DONE IT,WE HAVE GOT TO THE FIRST ROUND PROPER OF THE FA CUP-THE BIGGEST FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IN THE WORLD!!!!
For the first time ever in the history of the club, Eastbourne Borough (my local club) have reached the first round of the FA Cup after beating Bishop's Cleeve 1-0 away!! I was chuffed to bits to find out that the Borough boys had won and secured a place in the first round, beacause i know it means a hefty sum of £10,000 to the club, which to them can help alot in the investment of new players aswell as ground development, plus the possibilty of being drawn against a big club form either League 1 or League 2 of the football pyramid with tv cameras at our ground which is only like a 5 minute walk away from my house.
And i was chuffed to bits for a second time today when i watched the First Round draw live on the televison at ten past five earlier today to find out that we have been drawn against Oxford United at Home, so its a dream outcome for Borough, although we would have preffered to get ex-european champions Nottingham Forest, but Oxford Utd will still be the biggest opponents Borough have ever had to face in the history of the club by far and there is a reasonable chance that the Borough game may be shown live nationally on BBC1, because i know that they have a tendancy to pick the games that have a lower-leauge side at home to higher league side in the early stages of the competion-imagine that Eastbourne Borough whom i suspect some of you have never even heard of, live on national televison!!!!
Of course wether the game is shown live or not-i will definately be at the game and i cant wait!!!!

Thanks to both of you for kind words of congratulating Eastbourne Borough and wishing them success against Oxford-its much appreciated!!
As for O-Dogg's question-no to be honest i dont think we have got a chance, playing a League 2 side is going to be very tough and Eastbourne have not been doing very well so far this season, they have suffered from several injuries to many key players and are currently only 19th in the Conference, after a brilliant season last season in the league and reaching the play-offs but sadly losing to Alctrinham and failing to get promoted up to the Nationwide Conference-that was a very long sad and bleak journey back to Eastbourne on the supporters coach that day all the way from the Brittania Stadium in Stoke.
But anyway like i was saying really we hav'nt got a hope in hell of being victorious-but fingers crossed for a miracle!! Smile
COME ON BOROUGH!!!

Even more chuffed!

I just found out that the tv cameras are at the game - this means my company already has a great result! We recently paid for the club to install a brand new electronic scoreboard next to our advertising board and now its going to be on national tv!!

I only started following Borough just over a year ago (mainly as a stress relief from being a Spurs fan) and in that 12 months we have had the Conference Play off at Stoke and now Oxford. Now what if we could get to the third round............................ Eastbourne v Tottenham at Priory Lane? Hmm

Wahoo!! A fellow Borough fan Very Happy - i thought i was the only that lived in Eastbourne on this forum. So your an employee of the company that paid for the club to install the electronic scoreboard-i would like to thank you for that, because its such a nice addition to the ground! The company was called The Optical Showroom wasn't it? I think i remember reading about it in a Borough programme from their FA Cup 2nd Round Replay against Redbridge, which we 5-1! Very Happy
Yeah your right the BBC will have tv cameras at the match, but they are only showing the highlights, the BBC were going to choose between Eastbourne against Oxford and Chasetown at home to Oldham and in the end sadly they went with the Chasetown match, but having highlights of the Eastbourne game shown on MOTD wil be good anyway, altough the revenue the club recieves from the BBC is obviously only a fraction of the staggering £75,000 that Chasetown will receive.
Finally yes it has been a brilliant year for the club, it was excellent seeing Eastbourne playing at the Brittania Stadium in Stoke, even though we lost to bloody Altrincham!! Mad

Thanks for the thanks re the scoreboard. I have to confess I had more than a lot to do with it and am proud to be connected with the club esp after Saturday's match! If you ask anyone who was with me they will tell you that I got almost as big a kick out of Rowland's penalty as I have done out of any Cup Final win!

Great day out for everyone - bags of fun and nice to see the club getting lots of compliments. Lets hope we can pull out of the bottom half starting tonight.

Cheers mate

Paul

PS My whole family are Spurs fans for two generations being originally from North london but since last season we all now go to the Borough for most home games. That includes my 73 year old Mum who's last attendance at a match was at White Hart Lane in 1952!
