He had all the words beginning with "A" collected together, then "B", etc.

They were just about ready to go to the publisher, then someone broke in and stole the section with words beginning "P".

I wish I'd not started this now Laughing

Don't you think it's funny that someone breaks into someone's house and just steals part of the work they have done? Nothing else? And what could they do with the words beginning with "P" anyway?

Although the Arsenal manager, Vic Akers, was delighted to win in Europe he was not happy with the finances involved. He reckoned it had cost his club around £30,000 just to reach the final and said: "Financially, it doesn't pay us to be in the competition - and if it gets to the point where it becomes too expensive, we would have to pull out."

It cost them £30,000 and they got no support from uefa?
I heard UIK got 150,000 (not sure if it was Swedish Crowns or Euro or whatever else)
- let me check my info properly Cool

£30,000 - a week's wages for an average Arsenal men's player - Why couldn't they help out? Sad

Shocked £30,000! No way, no other women's club in England would survive if they had to spend that amount, that is if they reached that stage.

I can't find that article.
I'll ask AW tomorrow.
It was something about either uefa or Swedish FA supporting UIK
or rewarding them for the runner-up place.
150,000 is all I remember Embarassed

£30,000 - how ridiculous?

I was listening to Five Live radio just before the Arsenal Ladies had won the European Cup and I think it was Smith and White who were on talking. They were saying how frustrated they get when they see the Arsenal Mens pull up outside the stadium in their fancy cars, with their fancy clothes.

How they're frustrated that they dedicate their lives & more to the game, yet get no reward basically.

I think it's each Club's duty to promote Womens football as well. At Arsenal, there is very little promotion from what I experience and Arsenal Ladies are the best in Europe! Surely their promotion for all their amazing success should be at least OVER-the-top, for the point of promoting.

Spot on J.
They seem to think at Arsenal that a photo session
of the women's and men's teams together is a great support.
They always ask the Ladies about the Men in interviews
but they never ask Thierry or Freddie about the Ladies.

And when UIK came to London,
Arsene Wenger & Freddie Ljungberg went to the training ground
to wish them good luck - I wonder if they did the same to Arsenal Ladies.
(In a Swedish newspaper there was only about them meeting UIK
but maybe the paper was biased) Wink

I checked with AW - UIK got 150,000 SEK
from uefa, for the final in uefa women's cup 2006/2007.
That is around £12,000-15,000
- soz I have no time to check how much exactly Wink

Then so did Arsenal. The problem is that the costs involved are much greater than that. Not having a home game would be even more devastating for the finances. With 6000 on the stands, and say, only 50 sek on average per ticket (since there has been lots of talk about free tickets in abundance), you still get twice the amount than what UEFA comes up with.

Yes, but why can UIK say - yes, we've got 150,000 SEK from uefa
and all we'll hear from Arsenal is - it cost us £30,000!
Arsenal Men are not that poor, they should support their Ladies.
The men have never had as successful season as the Ladies 2006/2007.
They should award them with something really special,
not just a round of applause at the Emirates.

A lot of players (men) are donating a day's wages to a charity (I forget which).

It wouldn't harm them to do the same for the ladies' sides.

They see each other at the training ground, it well known Wenger sometimes watch them train.
