of course he shouldnt. the man obviously knows a lot about managment, but so do i, so can I be the middlesbrough manager? His backroom staff are more qualified to do the job than him! your right, it does make a mockery of the coaching system, and it makes me wonder why people trying to climb the coaching ladder bother to pay the money to take the courses. im sure there are people out there who know more about football, and are better qualified, so why not them? at the end of the day, you need the pro license to manage in the premiership, full stop.

I think he should be allowed to carry on. He seems capable enough.
When have the FA ever done anything without making a mockery of it? And it's hardly just a bit of football. He's had what, 15-20 years playing at the top level? 10 at the very least! England International, club captain. It's all relevant experience. He has also played under very good coaches and managers and from what I keep being told you can learn a lot from watching as many coaches as you can. Lar. |

he's probably got the A licence because of his first year in management. But he'll need to start the pro license course soon probably.

Is the Pro License by invitation only?

yes and all premiership managers require them by 2010.

So how long does it take? And if after 2010 a manager takes a club up but doesn't have it what happens? Or will they just get an invitation?

The problem with the FA coaching ladder is that it makes ordinary joe believe he can make it as a manager - when in reality ithat is never going to happen. Pro footballers do have more experiences, mroe backup, more know-how and more contacts - this is why they get taken on by chairman. The backroom staff jobs are the ones for us to aspire to if poss!
The guy is now taking his badges as fast as possible. The only issue is that when I do them, I take my time, gain the experience, put it into practice. He is going to do the B.A and Pro faster than it takes me to do the Level 2. He shouldn't be doing the same courses as us, that's what I feel. |

I think, with this the likes of Brain Clough, Fergie etc never took a coaching qualification. If Southgate is actually doing his qualifications, I don't see a big problem. M'boro are happy to emply him, and there will be suitably qualified support.

Another good call Teilo. These guys learned the trade through pure experience. Which, really is the key. It's nice to have the qualifications (which you need for pretty much any job these days) to back you up but there is no substitute for ability.
Congrats on your Level 2 by the way |

I'm thinking Gareth Southgate has earned a distinction already.
Should have tied it up by now though. |

Keane only just done part 1 of his A licene. Was chatting to some lads who were helping out for our B licene practices and they were on Keanes license. They said he was amazing but defo not completed A.
