I need to pick your brains.


I'm qualified to a Level 2 standard and have very good playing experience. I still play at a relatively high level now.

I'm not currently coaching but I would like to get into it as soon as possible.

What is the best way of going about this?

Can i write off to clubs and ask for experience or should i just start coaching youngsters at my local club?

Any help is much appreciated.

I know you boys won't let me down

in my opinion, i think it is always best to start coaching kids at youth level.

but as a level 2 qualified coach, dont start right at the basement, by that i mean under 8 and 9's, go for youths, like under 15 upwards at your local club. Youth coaching proves to be valuable experience.

But, if you choose to go straight in at club level, then the best thing to do is to write to clubs with a CV enclosed. Dont give them the chance to say no without looking at the CV, so put it in with the letter!

I would say start coaching women at a senior level,its fantastic fun and as a level 2 coach you will have the knowlege that will be more than enough for them.I started at Bradford City Voluntary then I was overcome with offers,I started coaching Leeds City Vixens womens team,ive done Bradford University Womens,Guisley womens and this new season im starting at Bradford Park Avenue with the womens team there.
Its great fun and can be testing at times.

When you started off as a voluntary coach at Bradford did you write off to them asking for that specifically or did you just send your CV off and ask for any available role?

To be honest I just went down to the ground in my tracksuit with my CV and gave them my intentions.It was quite simple really.
