I put top 4. why? because I believe with strikers like Martins and Owen Newcastle will be putting in the goals. Any team with players of that calibre would be expecting a lot of goals.

It's what we were laking last season - goals. We didn't score many goals and that is why we ended up in the lowly position we did.

I think the board will be expecting at least a top 6th place from Newcastle. Anything else is simply not good enough for us and will be considered a failure, I believe.

I cant see us finishing their because we cant attract that calibure of players any more, unless we stick 100k in their pockets every week.

£110,000 for Owen. We claimed were awarded £10million back of F.A for his injury and they have been paying £50,000 of his wages (amounts to £2million) while he was out of action.

So not all bad.

Top four for me. I think goal keeping wise we have one of the best 3 in the league if not the best keper in shay. He is world class and only Czeh and maybes someone like Reina are as good as him. Attacking wise what a quartet Ameobi bagged a brace which will do his confidence the world of good hopefully oba scored 17 in his first season and in a struggiling side thats no mean feat.

Owen and Viduka though are the perfect partnerhip big guy little guy with Vidukas great hold up play and footy brain and with his eye for goal and a pass he can also supply goals for MO if Owen stays fit then he is a guarenteed 20 + goals a season man providing we give him the service.

Midfield in Dyer Barton Emre Milner Nzogbia Duff Butt Solano and hopefully one more or so to come thats some choice folks

Defence yes we need it strengthened especially lb and cb but with rosenthal and taylor hopefully that would be a decent cbs partnership at rb solano can deputise there and geremi is ok there. I would love a right back but the main priority for me is at least 1 cb and a lb. Baines would be ideal so we should nip in before he goes to sunderland.

Also we have an excellent manager if he can Bolton 5th in europe and in a cup final who knows how far he can take us and hopefully he wil get the backing off the new board.

Also our opeing fixture list
of Bolton a
villa h
boro a
wigan h
derby a
West Ham h
What an opportunity for Newcastle to be top or in the top 4/5 after this run of fixtures our next 6 games are also kind to us and we dont play any top 4 side till november and thats Liverpool h and who knows if we are doing really well at that stage then with the momentum/confidence we have then we can beat them to.

I for one am really excited and expectant.

Toon toon black and white army Cool

I'm sorry but atm I can't see what is top 4 about us atm. Look at who Liverpool and Man Utd have attracted and yes...big names aren't always the way but still....Man City are being linked with top players who don't play at the top. Rolando Bianchi, Elano from Shaktar Donetsk, and we buy Barton who's injured already!!! Ive heard rumours of Deco, Baptista, Campbell....but in truth we've got Viduka, Geremi and Rozenhal.

Barton nd Emre injured, Dyer le\ving, that leaves us with Gerimi, Patterson and Nicky Butt, were going to be in trouble unless we get a replacement.

5th in the league so far and I've very happy with that position, we have a game in hand over a few teams. It's looking good.

Bad news is Owen if he requires surgery would be out for 6 weeks.

yea, whats new.

at least we have martins as back up. we also have barton back soon, so smith can push up front, which leaves geremi and either butt, barton or emre in centre mid.
