Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie says the appeals process in the Premiership has "never worked for him".

The manager's criticism comes after he revealed he didn't appeal against Gonzalo Sorondo's sending-off against the Saints because he didn't think it was worthwhile.

Sorondo was sent-off after an altercation with Peter Crouch on Saturday. The lanky striker was also red-carded, and the Saints' appeal for wrongful dismissal was turned down by the Football Association.

"Gonzalo raises his hands but he doesn't smash anyone or punch anyone, it was a push away." he told Sky Sports News. "We appealed against Sorondo's sending off at West Brom and it was turned down, which doesn't surprise me."

Dowie believes the appeals system is biased in favour of certain clubs, and he clearly feels his Palace side are not one of them. "We didn't appeal ours because the appeals process only works for certain clubs," he added.

"I don't think there's any point in talking about the appeals process as it's never worked for me."

"I don't understand. You can't get a yellow card overturned yet, the first game of the season, they overturned a yellow card from last season. Birmingham had one overturned but you are not allowed to appeal them. Yet, somehow, you can get one overturned."

The Eagles' boss is adamant that his boys can maintain their top-flight status as the relegation fight comes to a head this weekend. The Londoners visit Charlton Athletic on Sunday, in an encounter which will determine their Premiership future.

"Absolutely," he affirmed. "If I don't believe and I'm the manager, how do you ask the lads to believe?
Absolutely, I believe that we will still be in The Premiership."

Not a clever comment to say not clever at all. He could get into trouble for this and I dont feel there is any need in it. It was a sending off in all fairness.

But you can understand where he is coming from surely? Sometimes its said out of sheer frustration, and what are the FA going to do about it? Fine him? Its hardly going to stop him from speaking his mind again in the future. Good on Dowie, I think he is a top guy.
