Well we had the discussion a while ago as to whether King really should be captain, most people thought so.

But now as it looks King wont be fit for the start of the season, what a surprise. (I told you guys that right? well its the ITK news at mo) so usually when Ledders is out Keane is the captain right?

Well with Bent in the team now is Keane's starting spot really all that secure? Dont get me wrong I think Keane is a great captain, never afraid to give his teammates a good bollocking inbetween all his arm waving but you need a captain who is almost guaranteed to start every game, which this season Keane is not.

So when King is injured who should be Spurs captain?

Robbo? - not a fan of the keeper being captain myself, their role at the back is too limited to get round and put a hand on the shoulder of those that need it or to rip into those that need it.

Dawson? - The kid seems to have all the makings of a great leader, wears his heart on his sleeve, gives it his all, not afraid to yell orders at those that need it. Probably the best pick although im not sure hes ready for it, is still prone to lapses in concentration and cant see more senior players taking too much crap from him, bit young?

Jenas? - This name hasnt been mentioned much and is bit of a outsider but he is guaranteed (rightly or wrongly) to start every game when fit and seems a very intelligent footballer able to read the game well. Is a bit quiet for my liking tho. Is obvious to many that JJ often goes whole games or months playing within himself, not really putting himself out there, maybe being given the added responsibility of being vice captain would encourage him to step it up more and come out of his shell to play at his full potential.

Berbs? - Our best player and a very intelligent footballer no doubt, but is he a bit quiet to do this job? Doesnt seem to get too annoyed when things dont go our way, a cool head but maybe a little more fire and brimstone would be needed from el capitano?

_______??? - What I think we really need and this goes outside of the box created by this question is a big tough no nonsence midfield enforcer who puts the hard tackles in and grabs the whole team by the scruff of the neck and takes them to where they need to be. We need a Roy Keane, a Patrick Vieira (shudder) type player in our midfield and if we got them I think there would be a case for sicknote (ledley) to hand over the captaincy altogether. Zokora while I think he will improve markedly this year will never be this man IMO, thought the Hudd had the potential to be but not sure he will be ever able to get over his crippling lack of mobility to make it at the top level.

Well that was longer than I thought it was gonna be, anyone else have any thoughts? Oh and dont think im writing off Ledders just yet. LONG LIVE THE KING!

Good read that.

My initial thought would be Dawson; he may well be too young, but giving him the armband could maketh the man. He wouldn't shirk any responsibilty (I don't believe) and it could really take him up a level with regards to his concentration, and respect from team mates.
Wearing your heart on your sleeve is always a good start.

Other option would be Berba I think - he would get unconditional respect from the players, and he is quiet but Ledley is too and does a brilliant job.
A different type of Captain to the blood, sweat & screaming type, but possibly the one I would go for if I had to choose.

Berba seems a bit too quiet for me.

i still feel if king can stay fit he deserves to b captain and also i think robbie deserves the vice captaincy, if neither are playing michael dawson as he can b controling and itll b a gd test for him for later in his career if hes asked to take over from king.
