Solo's success as USA's goalie is no accident

Article about Hope Solo's career in > USA today <

Hope Solo wrote:
"My ultimate goal is to win a World Cup, to win an Olympics, but also to establish myself as the top goalkeeper in the world," Solo says. "Bold, right? I've never had the courage to say it out loud until four or five months ago, but I've always wanted it. It used to feel silly saying it."

Hope always comes across really well in interviews and seems a genuinely nice and humble person
After reading the article and the tough month she's just had I have so much respect for her and her strength of character

Totally agree-and also very agile and talented keeper who has to keep concentrating for the rare moments she is needed in most games. I imagine if she makes a couple of errors there are rivals who would be called in to replace her- that is a different sort of pressure to most keepers.

Nice article. I didn't know much about Hope but that was interesting and it's funny to think she nearly 'hung up her cleats'.

About time the best keeper had her own thread Wink It was a nice article , she's certainly earnt her place on the team and if the attacking line-up all come down with something we might see Hope up front. She's an excellent keeper , the best in the world right now. I've never heard anyone say a word against her , she's a great girl and fantastic keeper.

I thought she did have a thread...but then I couldn't find one so I thought otherwise Laughing
Hope's had a rough month; I'm sure she'll use that as motivation and make her even more determined!

Seems that Hope didn't need to make mistakes to get dropped- if that had been after the North Korea game I could have understood it, not on the back of three clean sheets. However, she was lucky in a way to have missed the thrashing that the USWNT got today as I don't think she could have saved more than 2 of the 4 they let in.

I'll put the link to Solo's reaction here also
Solo's comments

She has every right to be upset, but I think she should have took more time to reflect before this interview.
- she could have been more diplomatic, however she's prob seeing red right now and doesn't care what anybody thinks at this moment in time.

Who's gonna be in goal for Norway match?
Solo's comments could have just ruled her out

after seeing that video i love her more even though she probably should of stayed quiet until after the norway game but lets see if greg ryan gives in to peer pressure to put her back in

"It's not 2004 anymore"

That's got to be one unhappy team, I bet players have their alligence to one or the other
The way it has been handled has been the worst part - nobody can blame people for getting upset.

You can hear in Solo's voice that she's upset.

I think she meant - it's not 2004 any more
= it's not the year when Scurry was in top form (Oly and stuff).

^^ yea I knew what she was hinting at Laughing
That comment has made something that was Ryan's fault into a personal issue
- I doubt Scurry will be happy with Hope's comment.

Ah well 3 choices for Ryan v Norway:
1) take the blame, bow to pressure and play Solo
2) stick with Scurry
3) play 3rd choice keeper Barnhart to save himself from the media and Solo/Scurry problem

I'm right behind what Hope has said , when Hope's in goal you can hear her voice in the opposition half , she's always talking to her defenders , Scurry didn't do that , not a dicky bird , she might as well have been invisible. In 2004 Scurry was a good keeper who had good command of her box but not anymore , she's a has been who should let the younger and better generation take over. Let's have the memories of Scurry in her hay day.

The other Hope video from that link is really interesting-she had a very unusual childhood and she talks at length about her father. It sort of helps in understanding her anger about the decision for the semi final. Well done to her for saying what she did.
