Okocha: I let teammates down |
|
Bolton captain Jay-Jay Okocha has offered a damning assessment of his own performances this season.
Okocha said that he been held up by his team-mates because he "had not been consistent enough". Despite some patchy displays by arguably their most gifted player, Bolton have managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup for the first time. Speaking ahead of the match against Everton on Sunday, he admitted: "I have had a troubled season. I am just glad the other players have carried me so well. I just have to be grateful for having these kind of people around me. "With a bit of a luck I will help them next year. I have not been consistent enough this season because I have been in and out with injuries. "I couldn't rectify what was causing the problems and that led to me playing in some games without being really fit." The Nigerian playmaker looked on in with a sense of awe on Wednesday as Arsenal demolished Everton 7-0 at Highbury. "It was a festival of football for a neutral fan, " he said . But the midfield ace believes that Bolton mustn't underestimate the Toffees when they play them in their final league game this Sunday. "It might be a bad result for us because they won't like that to happen again. We just have to stay focussed on our own game and try give the fans something to cheer about. "We are going into the game without any pressure. We just want to go and round off the season in a good way." If Okocha does lift his game next season and Bolton maintain their current form, Allardyce's suggestion that they could win the UEFA Cup may not seem that far-fetched after all. |

Atleast he can admit it. I do agree he hasnt been as active as he ahs been in the passed ! Does this mean his legs arent what they were ? or did he just have one off season. Im sure he will gain respect of Bolton fans and players by admitting to this.
