Oh well, my description of the goals was spot on Markan missed a header, Carre snatched the ball from an Italian's feet and the Italian's hit the crossbar in the first 2mins, Terre struck high from a Vickan cross too |

Sweden forward Josefine Öqvist is out of September's FIFA Women's World Cup after tearing anterior cruciate knee ligaments.
The 23-year-old suffered the injury in a league fixture for her club Linköping FC against Kopparbergs/Göteborg and an examination confirmed that Öqvist will not be fit to return until the end of the year. She made her debut in 2002 and was in the Sweden squad that reached the 2003 World Cup final and UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2005™ last four, but it is in recent months that Öqvist has become a regular starter and goalscorer and national coach Thomas Dennerby said: "I didn't imagine it would be this bad. There is no natural replacement for Öqvist. She is unique and has been one of our best in the national team this spring." Sweden return to action in Denmark for a 30 August friendly and meet Nigeria, the United States and Korea DPR in their World Cup group in China from 11 September. ©uefa.com |

More bad news for Sweden, their (and Malmö's) starting goalkeeper Caroline Jönsson has torn her ACL in training. She will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup.
^^ all sounds familiar |

Thomas Dennerby has named his 30 player squad, which will be cut down to 21 for the trip to China.
Goalkeepers: Kristin Hammarstrom (Orebro) Hedvig Lindahl (Linkoping) Sofia Lundgren (AIK) Carola Soberg (Umea) Defenders: Kristin Bengtsson (Djurgarden) Maria Bergkvist (Umea) Sara Larsson (Linkoping) Hanna Marklund (Sunnana) Anna Paulsson (Umea) Charlotte Rohlin (Linkoping) Stina Segerstrom (Orebro) Marlene Sjoberg (Kopparbergs/Goteborg) Sara Thunebro (Djurgarden) Jane Tornqvist (Djurgarden) Karolina Westberg (Umea) Frida Ostberg (Linkoping) Midfielders and forwards: Maria Aronsson (Linkoping) Madelaine Edlund (Umea) Nilla Fischer (Malmo) Sara Johansson (Hammarby) Linda Forsberg (Djurgarden) Hanna Ljungberg (Umea) Therese Lundin (Malmo) Maria Nordbrandt (Sunnana) Frida Nordin (Malmo) Salina Olsson (Kopparbergs/Goteborg) Lotta Schelin (Kopparbergs/Goteborg) Caroline Seger (Linkoping) Therese Sjogran (Malmö) Victoria Svensson (Djurgarden) Biggest surprise is the inclusion of Kristin Bengtsson; she retired from NT action in 2005. Siprised Tornqvist has been included - not like Sweden are struggling for defenders. There are still doubts over Ljungberg's fitness. |

Kicki & Jane wouldn't have been included if not all the recent injuries in the Sweden's squad.
Big bow to them to try and help out when Sweden need them the most. |

Sweden stay optimistic
Sweden coach Thomas Dennerby has remained positive despite losing a number of key players for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Speaking after naming a 21-woman squad bereft of Caroline Jönsson, Josefine Öqvist and Frida Nordin to travel to China, Dennerby said: “It’s obviously a big blow to lose these players, but we have a strong squad and should be able to fight for medals.” Umeå FC's Madelaine Edlund and Djurgårdens IF FF’s Linda Forsberg profited those injuries and are now determined to impress. "This is great," said Forsberg, capped once. "It's an adventure and I'll do my best to win a place in the starting XI. If not I'll support the other girls as well as I possibly can." Legendary striker Hanna Ljungberg is also included despite continued injury problems. "Hanna is fighting her way back and we all know what she's capable of, so I'm in a good mood," Dennerby added. ©uefa.com |
