Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore is confident Malcolm Glazer's takeover will not affect the balance of power of the league's biggest money spinner - television rights.

There has been speculation that Glazer's buy-out of United will ultimately see him try to cash in on the club's global appeal by negotiating their own deal to broadcast matches when the current contract with Sky is up for renewal.

That would considerably weaken the Premier League's hand and open the door for other high-profile clubs to follow suit.

However, Scudamore does not believe that situation will arise, "It is far too early to say," he told Radio Five Live Breakfast.

"The Premier League is based on a collective television deal for 20 clubs.

"It has always proved impossible in the past to break away. If they want to do so 14 clubs have to do it and it is almost impossible to think that can happen."

Nonetheless, there are certain to be some major renovations around Old Trafford as Glazer looks to maximise the club's earning potential. Quite what effect these changes will have on the Premiership remains to be seen.

Oh dear - what a shame! United end another season without a trophy. The mighty Liverpool meanwhile – win the European Cup for a 5th time and it returns to its TRUE home!!!
Not a great season for you was it: knocked out earlier on in the Champions League by the side we beat; defeated by Arsenal in the FA Cup and witnessing us – your great pals winning that great ‘big ears’ trophy once more.
