Preston chairman to stand down |
|
Preston North End Chairman Derek Shaw has announced he won't stand for re-election as a director of the Club at the next AGM later on in the year.
Speaking to PNE.com on Tuesday morning, he revealed it had not been a rash decision, but was something that he had been thinking about for some time. "I thought about doing it at the end of last season," he said. "I wanted to make sure the stand was done and by November we should be well underway with that. "I got back to my car on Saturday and it had been spat all over and this sort of thing doesn't bother me, but when you give so much time and effort for the job and seem to be everyone's fall guy then time has come for it to stop. "We have shareholders who have a lot more money than me and it is time for them to see what they can do with it; I have spent seven years as Chairman giving up a lot of time and effort to try and bring success here I would like to spend some more time with my family." During Shaw's reign as Chairman the Club have had unprecedented success compared for the previous 30 years, reaching the Play-Off final twice, topping the second tier table for the first time in decades and seeing turnover at its highest ever figure. "I have enjoyed my time as a director," he added. "But the time has come for a change and if there are other people out there who can take this Club to the next level then this is their opportunity." |
