yeah, he's one of the best russian players now, I like his technics and flair. But I hate watching him the second forward in the national team. In Zenit he plays a "free-fiddle" or "free-painter", as we call it in Russia. I'd like to see him playing as an attacking mid under two strkers: Sychev and Kerzhakov.

Sorry Peter, I think we lost something in translation! Those with English as a first language find it funny that his name sounds like Arse Shaving, hence the joke by Marios who was basically asking "do you shave your bum?" and my references to electric razors, Gillete, lather, wax and foam!

You've just said you prefer stubble but surely that's uncumfortable when you sit down?! Wink

I was watching the Norway - Greece match. Very entertaining in the first half (final score 2-2 after 39 minutes: 2 goals by our CB, Kyrgiakos, 1 goal by Carew and a great trademark powerful shot/goal by Riise), but not too boring in the second either. Greece hit the post twice and had a clear goalscoring chance in extra time that could have won us the game. It's a shame that the player that managed to beat the offside trap and get face to face with the Norwegian keeper was not a striker but a defender, so he lost his cool, ended up too wide and wasted a great opportunity.

Grabbing 1 point from this game was great for Greece, as we now have 19 points and lead Norway and Turkey (they beat Hungary tonight) by 2. Norway has played one match more than Greece and Turkey, but one of their 3 remaining games is against Turkey at home so they still have a chance to qualify (assuming the rest of their matches go their way too).

1. Greece 19
2. Norway 17*
3. Turkey 17
4. Bosnia 13*
5. Hungary 9*
6. Malta 5
7. Moldova 5*

* = played 1 game more

As for Cyprus, we beat San Marino 3-0 (Aloneftis scored 2 and created the other) and reached 10 points, same as Wales and Slovakia (Slovakia have played 1 game more). But qualification in this group is impossible, with Germany having 22 points and the Czech Republic 20.

Wales scoring 5 in Slovakia was a shock.

One day, we'll be consistent and qualify for something again Rolling Eyes

Faroe Island - France joke of the day
The French squad has not arrived yet on the island due to the bad weather conditions
They are still in Norway and will try today at 11, if they don't succeed the game will be posptoned.
We do not need a plane crash with the full team in it.

Charisteas scored and it's now 1-0. Turkey is losing to Moldova 1-0 at HT, which suits us just fine.

EDIT: 3-1 now. Bosnia equalised but Gekas and Lymperopoulos made it 3-1. About 15 mins left on the clock. Turkey only managed a draw against Moldova (1-1), which means Greece now has 22 points, 4 poins clear at the top of our group! We're going to the Euro!

As for Cyprus, we managed to beat Wales 3-1 and reached 13 points! No chance of qualifying, of course, but this is the most points we've ever managed to accumulate in a qualifying round. We totally outplayed the Welsh and took revenge for the 3-1 defeat in Cardiff. Not bad for a day's work.

Also, the most important match of the day just finished. Romania beat Holland 1-0 and is now leading their group by 3 points. Goian the scorer.

Now we have to travel to Turkey for our next match. We can afford to lose that game, while Turkey can't. I don't expect us to win, but i'd love it if we managed to take revenge for the 4-1 thrashing we got in Athens.

Greece now needs 3 points to secure qualification, so i'd say the most important game for us is the one we absolutely HAVE TO win and that is the one against Malta. 3 points from that game would be enough to see is through even if Turkey beats us.

Poland - Kazakhstan 3:1 (0:1)

Till the halftime Poland played crap, then lights turned off - and after ten minutes of darkness we saw incredible Smolarek scoring three goals in ten minutes. Racing Santander made good signing buying him.

Smolarek is a good player. My team Panathinaikos were interested in him in the summer but as always the owner of our club felt he was too expensive. We all want this idiot to leave our club.

YEEEESSSS!!!!

Greece just beat Turkey away!!! Only 1-0, but the game had lots of chances and was really exciting to watch. They beat us 4-1 in Athens, so i was hoping for a more emphatic win, but this will do, especially since it is such a crucial result. Definitely more important than that game in Athens, in retrospect.

This win means we go through, while Turkey's job just became a whole lot harder, especially if Norway beats Bosnia tonight (they're up 0-1 at HT).
