Buckley Town FC Reject Promotion to Welsh Premier League

Buckley Town have rejected the chance off going up to the Welsh Premier League (L.O.W.), despite being worthy champions and it would seem that the committee have not listened to their Management, Players or Fans wishes.

Buckley would most certainly have done themselves proud and Flintshire as well, but it would seem that the committee lack ambition, which is rather sad as it now looks like the side will break up and end up doing a Rhydymwyn.

Rhydymwyn had the chance several years ago to go up and like Buckley they decided not too, in the end their side broke-up and they ended up leaving the Cymru Alliance for the Welsh Alliance League.

Could the same fate now be for Buckley Town?.

Im sorry but that is disgusting, if they want to be a good team then they need amition and go up. Why would you nto want to go up ? Welsh football is bad enough already but stuff like this isnt really going to help make the profile of the game stronegr now is it ? That is disgusting im ashamed about this to be honest.

Welsh Boy you are right, Buckley shouild have gone up as this does Welsh football no favours whatsoever. Ton Pentre are another club that also springs to my mind, why play at a high level only to refuse to go upto the highest.

I myself i'm with Mold Alexandra and though we are down we lack no ambition as it is our intention to climb right back up to the top.

Im sorry, but any team with this sort of attitude should be thrown out of the Welsh pyramid. If you dont want to reprasent Wales at the highest level then you shouldnt be allowed to represent us at all.

Its a shame more for the fans, the players and the management. They have reprisented the team well, and earned the right to go up just to get slapped in the face by the committee.

I do think some sort of system should be operated where clubs below the Welsh Premier should have the right type of ground and all money matters sorted before being allowed into those league's, if they don't wish to be promoted from either the Cymru Alliance or the Welsh League (South) then they should be refused admission to those league's.

Could you imagine Wigan Athletic saying they did not want to go up to the English Premiership?, it just would not be allowed to happen in the English game.

Sure the Welsh League's are world's apart, but why win a league and then decide not to go up, leaving all your Players, fans and hard working Manager's with nothing further to progress to.

this is a joke, in scotland teams only dont get promoted because the stadiums arnt of a high enough quality

the fans, players and manager must be feeling really p***ed off at the board.

Buckley Town have said the reason that they turned down promotion, was so that they could build for a future challenge with plenty of funds to back up their drive.

By not taking promotion they hope that if and when they win the league again, they sholud be able to make that step up and also hold their own in the Welsh Premier League.

But i myself still feel that they made the wrong decision, by not going up.

The reason Buckley did not go up was for number of factors
i) The ground still needs work to comply with the regulations of the welsh premier which would cost in excess of �10k
ii) The cost of playing in the welsh premier puts an extra �10k on the cost of playing the players and referees and travel.
iii) Buckley is a team which has been building its reputation for the last 5-6 years now and if they had of entered the welsh premier this time round i can honestly say the club would of folded by the end of the year.

Look at the likes of Mold Alex one of the founder members of the league of wales now in the national again! They were crippled by the financial burden and still havent recovered and the ground is being taken away by all accounts too.

We play football for enjoyment, and maybe the team would of liked the chance to play in the welsh premier but could they afford the time off work which comes with all the travelling on long midweek matches and early starts on a saturday: probably not and buckley have ex league of wales players who are fed up with all the travelling about thats why they are playing up at the globe way.

This championship came a year early for Buckley, if they have a good season this time round then the situation will be different.

Mold Alexandra will not be losing their ground just yet, however we are in the process of relocating and hopefully that will not be to long in the waiting.

It is true that past committee's for whatever reason's neally killed this great club off, but we are not in debt to anyone and we do have some funds, maybe not alot but we do have some.

Great credit for saving our club must go to Gareth Hampson who was the driving force behind saving us, also to all the committee who work very hard with Mold in mind.

We will go back up and we will be a driving force once again.

Hey GWB, you make me feel quite pathetic. I've had the luxury to have seen a team, in the first game I ever saw, after they opened the gates Very Happy

, Borough United (v Blaenau Ffestiniog,) that went on to win the Welsh Cup, and play in Europe.
I then moved, briefly to London and became an Arsenal fan (the first time I went there was the first FULL game I went to), and, like it or not, Arsenal are in my blood.

And then I see you say Mold Alex will be a driving force once again.
Supporters like you are essential to the future of footie, especially in Wales Wink

Just been to see Buckley play today and will add my pen'worth to the should we have gone up or not debate.

As I understand it, it was the Committee that decided not to. Looking at the ground I have to say they were probably right. Where is the money comimg from?

To put the WP required criteria in place I would estimate would have cost around �30,000 not the �10,000 quoted hereabouts.

250 seat grandstand, tv gantry, hard standing all around the pitch, etc, etc. All this will cost a lot.
Then travel comes into it: the hire of a coach to play Quins is going to be around �800. What is the situation when a mid week match is to be played, say, 80 miles away? Can players get the necessary time off and how will they be reimbursed loss of wages?

I wish Buckley well but it all comes down to money, money, money which, it seems to me, they just haven't got.

Yes - it always comes down to money doesn't it, and it's such a shame that relatively so little is needed when you see what the likes of Chelski have available Crying or Very sad

It is not known why but presumably for the same reason as last year.

This will not go down well with their fans.

This is from www.welsh-premier.com and is as near to an official announcement as we are likely to get.

REIGNING Cymru Alliance champions Buckley Town have withdrawn their application for promotion to the Welsh Premier.
The club failed to apply last year when they surprisingly won the title but chairman Peter Gomery says promotion could put the club's future at risk.
He says it would cost them up to �30,000 to bring their Globe Way ground up to standard, with an additional 170 seats, new turnstiles, a treatment room and improvements to the playing surface.
He also estimates the annual cost of running the club would more than treble from the current �20,000.
"We knew the ground was not up to League of Wales criteria, so we were faced with having to pay up to �30,000 to get it that way," Gomery told the Flintshire Chronicle. "There was the possibility of getting a grant from the FAW, but even if we had got it, it would have only covered half of it. Then there's the running costs, which would go through the roof.
"Our decision was made to safeguard the future of Buckley Town Football Club. It would have been great to have gone up but 12 months later this club may have been extinct. We were not prepared to let that happen."
Manager Dave Taylor says player morale has not been affected, while Gomery adds that promotion is still the club's long-term aim.
