Torres Knocked Back Rivals

Fernando Torres has revealed how he spurned Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal before moving to Anfield.

The Spanish international striker claims he had opportunities to join a host of top English clubs throughout his time with Atletico.

"Offers came in from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United but I preferred to stay with Atletico at the time," said Torres.

"I'm a much better player now that I have joined Liverpool. With time you learn to move a lot better."

Despite earning nearly 50 caps for his country, Torres has yet to feature on the European stage at club level.

That could all change on Tuesday night if he's selected in the team to face Porto.

"Everyone wants to play in Europe, to be among the greats," he added.

"I did not come here because of money, I came for the challenge and the chance to win things and I believe I can do that with Liverpool.

"The chance to play in the Champions League and with great players is what matters. I want to contribute with my goals."

Another foreign import tries to endeer himself to his new clubs fans by saying he turned down their biggest rivals to join them.

Utd enquired but didnt think he was worth the price so never bid for him, meaning he had no offer to reject, I doubt Chelsea would have wanted him with their current strikers and Arsenal would never be in for 25m rated players

Strange, Ive never heard Tevez say anything along these lines about Man U.

Oh yeah, he's just a money grabbin' mercenary looking very ordinary in a quality team. Funny, it was the other way at West Ham Wink

It's actually not saying he turned down them teams for Liverpool though. as he says "Offers came in from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United but I preferred to stay with Atletico at the time," so maybe he's thinking if only the other teams would of put an offer in when Liverpool did it would of been another story.... WOW torres admits he would rather be at Man Utd. Wink

Haha, eejit.

He would be on our bench and we wouldn't pay a laugable amount of money. That's why he went to Liverpool.

He's easily one of the most overrated players in modern football. I said I didn't want him at Arsenal, and still don't.

Laughing I suppose you didn't see the article where Fergie admitted he'd enquired about Torres in previous seasons but for him to choose to stay on at Atletico instead?

It was no secret that United wanted him and i seem to remember LOADS of United fans screaming for Fergie to sign him - that's one of the reasons i was unsure about him signing as he half felt like a United player, with all the connection he'd had with them.
