I doubt it, now they've lost Klose.

I completely forgot about Werder Bremen. IMO they also have a very good chance of going far in this competition. They could easily get to the semis.

"Easily get to the semis"?! They should be happy with the quarters, if they qualify at all.

I've been rooting for them in the last couple of seasons in Europe, but now they've sold Klose i don't think they can go far, despite having a few more quality players (like Diego). I'm not even sure they can qualify from their group, even though on paper they're favorites for 2nd place.

We'll see...

Werder Bremen and Sevilla will both get to the semis. Thats my prediction.
Have you seen Werder's squad. Here are some of their players and some clips of them.

Hugo Almeida - free kick against inter:

Diego - scores from his own half:

Torsten Frings - long range 'bullet' in the world cup:

They also have some good very good centre backs in naldo/mertesacker.

Of course i've seen Werder (and all the goals ou posted). I've seen them in CL games and some Bundesliga games over the last 2-3 seasons. With Klose they were deadly because their main problem has always been defence so they often had to score more than they allowed. Without Klose they look like they don't have what it takes to take on teams such as Chelsea, Valencia and other big European teams.

They seem to have bounced back from their bad start to the season, but i'm not convinced that their strikers are enough to cover Klose's departure. They're mostly inexperienced and haven't scored that many goals in their career. Maybe they can shine in Klose's absence, but i don't understand how you can be so sure they WILL. Unlike the previous 2 seasons (when i was sure Werder would turn some heads in Europe), this time i have my doubts, to say the least.

PS: saying Sevilla will go to the semis is not as big a gamble as saying Werder will, i hope you realise that

Yeah, Sevilla have a very good chance, and are right up there with a lot of the big boys.

Bremen will struggle without Klose in my opinion. I thought they would make the UEFA final last season, but they were very disappointing when they went out.

The goal king have lost their top scorer, so i can't see them being a danger in the CL, or challenging for the Bundesliga this season.

There best was last season, when they should've won the league and reached the UEFA cup final. They didn't, and they look weaker now.

agree with your oppinion, Klose was the striking power of Bremen, but they do well without him in Bundesliga. Hope they will present us another one goal-fest this season. Aaron Hunt is very talented young attacking midfielder/forward, Carlos Alberto is fit again, but Klasnic is not available until February I suppose. Yeah, they will face certain problems.

Ah that old Arsenal arrogance again. Always pops up around the time you start to win a few games.

I'm not too fussed who wins it, as long as Liverpool avoid playing AC Milan at any stage and also Milan don't win it (they're getting boring now).

Real Madrid have an interesting team, but i hope at all costs they DON'T win it after Schuster's comments. I hope they get pummelled 6-0 by Barca. I could see them winning it though, just to p1ss me off (well, not to personally go out and [beep!] me off, but you know..).

I could see United making the final, whether they win it or not i'm not sure. I'd love an all British final - United / Liverpool last year would have been amazing. Tense as hell.

I hope more than anything Chelsea don't win the competition - they can't buy their name alongside the elite of Europe as Champions can they? I'd even rather United won it than them..

Strangely though, i find myself almost wanting Arsenal to win it. I feel their recent success and the team they created (/the team they're creating) deserves some sort of recognition, as they do make some of the best performing teams under Wenger. Meh. I'm sure it'll pass..
