The first round draw took place at the end of October last season, so I suppose it will be the same this year.

It is made after the final qualifying round has been played.

FA Cup Preliminary Round
Saturday 1st September 2007

Woodbridge Town 0,
Wroxham 2

On an excellent playing surface it was the home side who threatened first as Blake turned sharply and crossed but the ball was cleared by Self. Both sides were looking to get the ball down and play as play evened out but with just 12 minutes gone the Yachtsmen took the lead.

Following a foul on Key, Justin Fox clipped his free kick over the top of the wall and with the ball targetted towards the bottom corner of the net Garnham was unable to get across his line in time to keep the shot out.

That goal marked the start of a good spell for the visitors and Fox found Gilmore who in turn picked out Gilman and his excellent first touch set him up for a shooting opportunity but Garnham stood tall to make the save. Soon after Cook's flick was intercepted by Bickers but he sold his keeper short and Gilman did well to get to the ball and lay it back to Cook but his well struck shot was always going wide.

Both sides were continuing to look to stroke the ball around, although neither side was demonstrating much urgency in their play. Howes free kick was met in the air by Gilman but he headed over and next it was Woodbridge's turn to see more of the ball and Seaman made good progress before cutting the ball back to Blake but he wasted the opportunity.

Soon after Self was caught in possession in the centre circle and the Woodpeckers looked to break but Wroxham got back in numbers to regain possession. The Yachtsmen then produced the move of the game as several players were involved before White's nice pass found Gilmore who got his shot in and only a superb covering clearance by Miller kept the score down to 1. From the resultant corner Challen got on the end of Key's cross and he was unlucky to see his looping header hit the crossbar.

A long ball from the back provided Wroxham with another opportunity as Cook looked to shoot early and his long range effort was not too far wide. Wroxham remained in control for the remainder of the first half but they were unable to add to their solitary first half strike.

HT : Woodbridge Town 0, Wroxham 1

The home side made two changes at the break in an attempt to swing the game around but Wroxham were soon on the attack and they had a strong penalty appeal waved away as Howes' ball into the box found Cook and he appeared to be fouled from behind but the referee allowed play to continue.

The game was then held up as Self received lengthy treatment for an arm injury but he was able to continue. Blake had a chance for Woodbridge but Challen blocked well. Although both sides were continuing to look to play football the game was not proving to be much of a spectacle for the small crowd with the Yachtsmen looking very comfortable and they effectively made the game safe with a second goal midway through the half.

Cook won a high ball well and Danny White gained possession and he skipped past a defender before finishing the ball neatly into the bottom corner of the target. White had another chance soon after as a poor clearance fell to him but this time he shot wide.

The next chance for Wroxham fell to subsitute Pauling who had a go from around 25 yards and Garnham was forced to turn the ball behind for a corner that came to nothing. Still it was all Wroxham with Woodbridge offering little attacking threat and when Gilman found Cook he got his shot away but Garnham was untroubled.

Some sloppy Wroxham play almost threatened to let Woodbridge back into the game as Carus lost the ball and only a tremendous tackle by Pauling prevented Blake from shooting and Wroxham broke to create the last chance of the afternoon with Gilman's shot being blocked.

FT : Woodbridge Town 0, Wroxham 2

Wroxhamfc.com man of the match - Gary Gilmore

This was a surprisingly low key FA Cup tie with Wroxham looking well in control for the majority of the 90 minutes against a youthful Woodbridge side. The Yachtsmen central defensive pairing both looked solid again whilst White covered plenty of grass but the man of the match award goes to Gary Gilmore who was the pick of the bunch.

I'll be following Wroxham on their Cup adventure, next up away to Kirkley in the First Round Qualifying of the FA Cup - that match taking place on Saturday 15th September 2007.

Probably not, but it's the magic of the FA Cup isn't it, minnows hoping to progress to maybe, just maybe getting a big team at home.

Yep I agree, while it isn't quite the same as it used to be, I love the old magic of the FA Cup.

I guess its what you grow up with, my era was the 80's where there were giant killings & classic games....I guess if you are growing up nowadays, its Chelsea Man U...and that's pretty much it. yawn.

They are still the only team to have ended up bottom of the bottom division and then beaten previous season's champions.

My nearest league team against my favourite team Laughing

At least I know what car Mickey Thomas has now, so might scratch it with a trolley next time I see him in Tesco Laughing (j/k)

Ahhh the legend that is Mickey Thomas - didn't he inspire Wrexham to a shock win around and abouts 1992??
Now remind me, who was that against again?..... Very Happy

I tip Man City to have a good run in the F.A Cup this year.
