Just wondered how are we to decide what goals are nominated .....only 10 allowed in the poll .

Everyone nominates a goal, the 10 that go in the poll are the 10 most voted for now and then people vote on the 10 in the poll. Make any sense?

But here's where the debating starts:

I actually think van Persie's second was better than his first.

The pass from Eboué, the turn from Walcott, the supply from Walcott, the quick first touch and superb quick shot from van Persie to win the game. It's great attacking play and a class finish. The first goal was simple van Persie doing what he does on the training ground all the time.

we have to remember that Goal of the Month is exactly that , we cannot include build up play or a pass from so and so . This is down to individual brilliance or creativity ....ie the second goal by Van Persie should only be include if it was deemed to be worthy due to his skills , not bacause of the pass or cross that led to his goal .

So ...a fantastic build up featuring 24 passes from one end to the other that results in a simple tap in for a player would not be classed as a goal of the month in my opinion .

That is why i would nominate Van Persie`s rocket goal better than his second ...good though it was .

A goal consists of more than just the finish! Build up play is essential when judging a goal in my view.

Robin's second was much better than the first. Even in terms of the finish for me.

Maybe a touch over exaggerated but it was a superb header.

I have to agree with J-Axe. Brilliant goals can simply be moments of individual brilliance, but i think it can also be a peice of team brilliance. Particularly the passes right before the goal have to be taken into consideration in my view. If you pull off a sensational chipped one-two and volley into the top corner it has to be deemed better than say a corner and a volley. Or 5 or 6 one-touch passes that sythe through a defence for a neat finish has to be considered a great goal too.

Nevertheless, it's something you really have to decide upon.

Oh, and just a little suggestion on Aussie_Liverpool_Fan's suggestion - maybe people could nominate a top 10 in no particular order, and the 10 with the most votes go into the poll. If people nominate one goal, isn't it basically just voting for their favourite and technically the person with the most nominations should win anyway (although it wouldn't work out exactly like that, as people who voted for goals that didn't make the cut would have their votes free).

With most goals, they wouldn't have been goals if it weren't for the build up play or the assisted pass. So it should all be taken into consideration.

Yeah me too. I was a real classy finish. It looked like the sort of goal Henry would score when he was full of confidence, because of the way his body was positioned to hit it hard and low, but he then changed it at the last minute, and floated it over the 'keeper in such a classy way. I was surprised the commentators didn't get more excited about it. I'm sure if Henry scored it they would've.

hmm betty .. Well i guess you all have a point , but its just that whenever i have watched Match of the Day they never mention anything about the team play when doing the goal of the month competition . It is not called `team` goal of the month . The actual `goal` is the thing that matters ..an example is if a team ..Liverpool .has a lightning counter atttack and a cross is floated into the box ...up jumps Pter Crouch to head the ball ...however it hits him on the shoulder and goes in the net ....goal . Now would you all qualify as a goal of the month because of the superb movement leading up to it .. ?

Another example is a defender makes a tackle on a player heading towards goal , the ball is deflected to a midfielder ..who blast the ball 25 yds into the net ....great goal or not much cop because the shot was only the result of a deflection ...

To me the goal is the deciding factor ....not how we got to it ...the player is the one who is going to win the award ....not the team ...

Why? Because it was a great counter-attack and great team play up to the goal which was comfortably finished by Rooney.

Was it a better strike than van Persie's screaming volley against Charlton, that gave us a 2-1 away win? No. They voted it the winner because 1.) they're biased, 2.) they went for team play, despite forgetting the fact that the team play for the van Persie goal was also better!

ok fair enough if that is how they choose it , i want to make sure we all understand how to narrow down the goals we nominate .. i guess it has to be a good goal as well as the build up ...like i said i dont think a simple tap in would qualify ..
