Sounds like Houston is next in line for a new team (following Toronto). Of course I'd be happy if Philadelphia were next but I'm not sure if the pieces are in place to get in done right...hopefully sooner than later though!

Actually the word is that since the San Jose club is having problems and they can't find a buyer, they may very well move to Houston if something isn't resolved here in the near future. Texas is a soccer state and I think they would do well there, plus they would be getting one of the best teams currently in the MLS.

It does appear Toronto will be getting the next 'new' franchise barring any last minute problems or pull-outs.......

Ah, wasn't aware San Jose was having problems...do they share the stadium with Chivas? Or was that LA? Can't keep my own country straight. Embarassed Its hard to follow when no team is in the area...no media attention whatsoever. Of course, even if we did have a team it would barely get a mention I think, not so long as the Eagles are playing, good year or not.

San Jose have there own stadium, auctually it's the San Jose State University stadium, and is a very small venue, pitch wise. The Chivas and the L.A. Galaxy share the Home Depot Center in Carson California, a suburb of Los Angeles.....

Not a slam on the Eagles, but if it wasn't for T.O. and all his idiot tricks the Eagles may not be getting much press at all......... Neutral

The San Jose Earthquakes are moving to Houston, since the team's owners were attracted by the chance to play in front of an ethnically diverse population willing to support a soccer team.

San Jose officials desperately worked to keep the team from leaving even to the point of subsidizing a new stadium, but to no avail.

San Jose will keep the Earthquakes team name, logo and colors, and the city already has signed a letter of intent with the hopes of attracting a MLS expansion team, perhaps as early as 2007.

"It is our intent to return to San Jose as early as possible," said MLS commissioner Don Garber .

Garber said all the coaches and Earthquakes players currently under contract will transfer to Houston.

The Earthquakes are rich in MLS history. Led by Landon Donovan, the Quakes were MLS champions in 2001 and 2003, and this current season lost to the rivals and Donovan led L.A. Galaxy in the semi-finals. Attendance, however, has always been low. This past season the Quakes averaged just 13,037 fans at home.
