Football!!

Hi,

I'm sure all of you in this forum is mad about football coaching. So am I. But I also want to carry on my education (hoping to eventually do physio). 2 reasons for this 1. so i have a career to fall back on if I don't get to pro-coaching and 2. i believe that if i am skilled in coaching and physio then i will be twice as likely to be employed by a footy team (probably wrong but thats how i think lol).

so basically what i want to know is 'is it possible to do football in the community whilst doing sixth form or does football in the community take up too much time?'

Yes it is very possible. I am currently in 6th form, and am a level 1 qualified coach, doing football in the community with the local club, and doing work at schools around the area. However, it is not as easy as many think. I know people say this all the time, but you need to gather as much experience as possible. Sounds strange, but i have been coaching since the age of 13! I have been coaching kids from the age of 5 to 18 in the 5 years i have been coaching, and these experience have been invaluable. I have been able to manage my time so i can work on school work, and coaching. Im sure you will find it very hard at first to fit things in, like i did, but it is well worth doing. One thing however that i would strongly advise is if you currently play the game, cut down on how much. I used to play each morning and afternoon on saturday and sunday, and trying to fit that in with school work and coaching was simply impossible.

you're best bet to get into football in the community work is to get in touch with your local professional football club and see what community coaching opportunities they have, although i think you would be unlikely to get any work with them without at least having your level 2 coaching badge. To start with you might just want to find a local amateur team to do some coaching hours with and increase your coaching experience.

Also, to go back to your earlier question about is it possible to coach while at 6th form, last year i was at college and worked 4 nights a week and still managed to do a couple of hours coaching work each week. I guess it just depends how hard your willing to work.
