They may be illegal, but that often means nothing on the internet. You aren't supposed to download music illegally from programs like Limewire, Ares, Bearshare etc. But everyone still does, and no one does anything about it.

And what about in the art section, when people want links where they can download programs like photoshop?

See how pathetic this rule is? I've never seen it on any other forum.

Anyway, i've already spoken to the cat about this.

Why can't we use words like focker, or fecker? They've been used in popular prime-time TV and film. One was even in the title of a film!

Oh and can you explain to me why you decided to enforce that bull illegal program rule?

Regarding the bull illegal program rule, maybe you should take a look at your own ISP's Terms and Conditions which your mummy or daddy signed up and agreed to when taking out the broadband service:-

Quote:
D Using our services

You are responsible for the way the services are used. You must not use the services to do any of the following acts or allow anyone else to use the services to do such acts:
Send a message or communication that is offensive, abusive, defamatory (damages someone's reputation), obscene, menacing or illegal;
Cause annoyance, nuisance, inconvenience or needless worry to, or break the rights of, any other person;
Perform any illegal activity;
Break, or try to break, the security of anyone else's equipment, hardware or software;
Deliberately receive, use, own, post, transmit or publish obscene material (including, but not limited to, child pornography);
Upload, post, publish or transmit any information or software that is protected by copyright or other ownership rights without the permission of its owner;
Copy or distribute any software or services we provide (but you may make a backup copy of the software we provide for your personal use);
Use any services (including, but not limited to, phone services) for commercial or business purposes;
Use any Internet Protocol (IP) address that we have not assigned to you. Put simply, you may not use your Virgin Media internet connection to harm the service of another internet user or impersonate another user, whether on our network or external to our network. You acknowledge that we may change your Internet Protocol (IP) address from time to time without giving you notice;
use the services in a way that (i) risks degradation of service levels to other customers, (ii) puts our system at risk and/or (iii) is not in keeping with that reasonably expected of a residential customer.
If we believe that you are using the services in any of these ways, we are entitled to reduce, suspend and/or terminate any or all of the services without giving you notice.

it is the fact that you feel the need to use these sort of words that is the problem Sticky . There are plenty of members here that can hold intelligent and meaningfull conversations without the need to use whatever expletivse comes to mind . Sure we may swear on the odd occasion or in the heat of the moment but since we relaxed the rules a while back members seem to think that was a green light to use swear words as an everyday occurrance on the forum and it was ok to use them in normal conversation . Surely it will be a good thing if we can all chat with each other without constantly being greeted by a multitude of sweat words ...whether in humour or not ....we are not kids ....most of us anyway ...we are adults and that is how we should be able to conduct ourselves on this forum .

As for the illegal software and program links ....we cannot be seen as directly advertising or promoting this sort of thing ......the PM is always available for members to send links or things like that to each other ...you can still name the websites as in `use Limewire ` or whatever , but advertising links has always been a no no ...unless permission has been given , we have probably let a few go in the past but with the new rules we will have to try to follow them as best we can ..

PHPbb forum rules -

Quote:
Members are asked to respect the copyright of other users, sites, media, etc. Users linking to or asking for information on warez, crackz, etc. or re-printing material without permission will receive a warning and their post will be removed. #

Xbox 360 forums

2. No Illegal Content. Play by the rules. Anything that is illegal (or even quasi-illegal) or pornographic will be removed and you will be banned. Also, posting any dangerous or malicious links will not be tolerated. For example, intentionally linking to sites or pages that are worm/virus threats and/or nuisance links that hijack browsers (Rick Rolls etc) are STRICTLY prohibited and will result in action against your account - potentially including permanent banning from the site.

Amiga.org forums

No posting about illegal activities
If you get drunk, that's fine. If you use drugs, that's fine. The moderators of this site aren't here to be your mother. We will not however tolerate excessive posting promoting drug use or other illegal activities. It's not funny, it's annoying, and it's unacceptable. Moderators are free to use their discretion up to and including banning the account of the person responsible.

These are just 3 that I have used....and all have similar policies. Im sure if you look through terms and conditions of most big forums, they will have the same sort of things.

I haven't been on in about a month, but this was the first thread I came to. My a lots changed!

I think it was about time for a revision in the rules - ervything began to get a bit out of hand. OD obviously spent a long time doing all this - and hopefully it will get more members on board.

Sticky - how petty can you get. You were a really nice guy when my PC broke. Now you're going on about how the rules are crappy and how you disagree with illegal file sharing. Read the last line - illegal- where if you do it you can be criminally charged. And if you don't like the rules clear off - there are plenty of other members who want to stay on a clean forum.

Anyway, back to the positives. Great plan OD, but it just needs enforcing now!

It's the principle. I could easily go without swearing, i just think it's pathetic that we aren't allowed to say things like focker, but it's acceptable for it to be used in a film title.

Maybe i'm just making a big deal about it because i like moaning, but surely you can see why i think the rule is a bit over the top?

As for the illegal program rule - if it means we can't talk at all about programs like Limewire, Ares, programs, films and music downloaded from Torrents, free TV broadcasting programs (i'm not sure if they are actually illegal) etc. then i have a problem.

Anyway, who's the clown? Which one of you thought it would be funny to change my title? I bet it was Big Jono. He likes to think of himself as a bit of funny man.

is it really such a big deal that you cant discuss some two bob illegal file sharing thing on a public forum?

its a simple case of respect.

for example, i swear a lot, in everyday life and on here. for me it helps me express things. swear words help get a particular point across in my opinion.

however i can understand that some people are not partial to a swear word and i can fully understand the need for rules as this place has gone a bit crazy lately. as has been said previously, if i didnt like it i could simply leave, no amount of moaning is going to see the rules ripped up or whatever and if they are enforced properly and at the correct times then it can only benefit the place.

the swearing ban will affect me and i will have to watch my posts in future but am i complaining?

is anybody else complaining? accept it and behave or erm sling your hook

i think we should all just give it a few weeks to get used to the new rules .....there will obviously be some initial problems getting used to them and what things will be ok and what will be frowned on . We mods/admin will also need time to get the balance right so bear with us and as O Dogg said if you have any issues or queries please PM a mod or admin depending on the circumstances ...

YEESSS!!! Back of the net!...

No, i'm sorry, i don't want to [beep!] you off - i don't want to [beep!] anyone off. Surely you can understand why i thought it was you though?

Anyway, i like to think of myself as a decent member. I don't spam, i'm generally quite nice to our members (i don't get involved in the spus bashing), i help keep the spanish and italian sections alive, i very, very rarely post short one line posts (unlike some), i don't get involved in all the pathetic Man Utd vs. Liverpool arguments any more, i don't go fishing (i'm usually the one in the pond) and on the whole i'd say i contribute in a positive way to this forum - so i'm going to stop my wining, and put up with it.

Oh but i'm not happy about my title being changed to idiot... To make up for it, how about you changed my title to Fecking legend? Wink
