Just back from the Harps game last night, we won 2-0, great result we're into the final now against Waterford for a place in the Premier Division.

The best part was after the final whistle though when all the Dundalk fans came onto the pitch and came down to the town end where all the Harps fans were. They were singing and the Harps fans singing back and in the end we were all singing the Dundalk songs. They all came into the crowd then and congratulated us and we all swapped scarves and stuff. Amazing scenes, first time ive ever seen anything like it.

Also, anyone hear about the man that threatened to blow himself up inside the FAI offices last year because the FAI wouldnt let Dundalk into the premier League? Well he was there and came up to shake my hand and we were chatting to him. He was a really sound guy strangely enough Laughing

Finn Harps delighted the majority of fans in a 4,000 strong crowd at Finn Park as they gained a major advantage in the first leg of the eircom League promotion/relegation final.

The First Division outfit fully deserved their win and must now be fancied to play in the top flight next season.

Harps went into the game knowing that they had to overcome their dreadful record in these play-offs, dating back to 1994 when they lost to Cobh Ramblers. Since then, the Donegal side has also come off second best in promotion/relegation clashes with Athlone Town, Longford Town, Galway United and Derry City.

Waterford, likewise, went into the game with a poor record in such matches, having never won a play-off series in four attempts.

After a tame start, the game sprung into life with Harps making the breakthrough in the 18th minute with long serving centre-half Declan Boyle powerfully heading home for his ninth goal of the season.

The goal really lifted Harps and with captain Tony Shields dominant in midfield the Paul Hegarty managed side put Waterford under a sustained period of pressure.

But Waterford went closing to drawing level on 34 minutes. Dave Mulcahy surged forward before finding Dave Warren who was taken down right on the edge of the box. From the resulting free, Warren's thumping effort was deflected out for a corner.

Harps continued to hold the upper hand after the break with Conor Gethins having two shots on goal while Michael Funston had a shot blocked.

Waterford were then reduced to ten men when Patrick Flynn received a straight red after a touch-line flare-up on 61 minutes, and two minutes later Harps made it 2-0 with Gethins lobbing the 'keeper from outside the box.

Harps then piled on the pressure and Gethins hit the post before Stephen Parkhouse added the third in the 87th minute following a free.

The second leg takes place in Waterford on Friday

Superb result tonight Very Happy Very Happy Were as good as promoted already and surely cant mess it up now!!!

I never made it to the game because of the FAI's ingenious idea to play the playoff final on a Tuesday but I dont really care right now! What a result Very Happy

Well, if you knew much about the clubs recent history with playoffs then you would know never to take anything for granted. I think its 6 playoffs in the last 11 years and we've lost every one of them!!

And cheers cfcbhoy, might see ya around the ol' dog track next season Wink

Surprised Shocked

Surely that spell will be broken with the healthy lead you're taking down to Waterford - will there be a good turn out of Harps supporters for the game?

Oh and good luck!

2-1 up with half an hour left. No chance we're going to mess it up now!!

Waterford is at the opposite end of the country but according to the radio theres more Harps fans at the game than Waterford Laughing Roughly 500 which considering the distance its pretty good. Theyre in great voice as well, havent stopped singing all night

The papers were generous this morning, the Independent gave us the whole right side of a page Rolling Eyes

If we're lucky our games get a small mention in the news in brief usually so its a bit more coverage than usual I suppose!
