Sir Alex: I Was Offered Inter Job |
|
Sir Alex Ferguson says that the one regret he has in his football career is never trying his luck abroad, and reveals that Inter once offered him the job as manager.
”I would have loved to have gone abroad if I hadn't come to United," Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News. "I was interviewed for the Barcelona job but Terry [Venables] stayed another year and then Inter tried to get me when I was at Old Trafford. "But once you are engrained into the place, the harder it gets to leave." Ferguson announced his decision to retire from management at the end of the 2001/02 season, but he changed his mind and is still going strong. "I will have a position at the club [once I retire] but not as director of football - possibly a role that [director] Bobby Charlton has now. “Sir Bobby is not an intrusive person but he is always there for help and advice. And I think that's the right way.” Would have been interesting to see him in Italy |
