Unfortunately, several MLS clubs are required to share stadiums with other sports. However, there are huge strides being taken to build football specific stadiums for each MLS club.

Here is a list of current upcoming and proposed stadiums.

DC United - Arguably the face of MLS football. The most successful club in MLS history. However, they currently play at RFK stadium which they shared with the local baseball team; the Nationals. For the 2008 season, the stadium will be for DC United and only DC United for the Nationals have moved on to their own baseball specific stadium.

Current Proposal
Originally it was poised to be at Polar Point in Washington DC. The club was willing to build the stadium along with hotels and store fronts with the project as well as keeping the current park land. However the District has balked at the plan making the club look for other land in the Metro area. Maryland and Virginia have been in the running. Maryland are currently the front runners enticing DC United to come there, while DC United used to have practice/training facilities in Virginia. Owners of DC United have visions of a new stadium by 2010.

Red Bull New York - Playing in an NFL stadium; Giants Stadium/Meadowlands in New Jersey. The club has currently broken ground on a new stadium to be built in Harrison, New Jersey. There has been delays in the building of the stadium due to delays in the clean-up of industrial waste at the stadium site. Currently the opening of the stadium (25,000-seat) is scheduled for 2009.

Kansas City Wizards - Stadium plans have been approved by the city. They are currently waiting for a final financial plan. Planned opening is scheduled for 2010 with a 18,500-seat stadium.
"The $949 million project calls for the closed Bannister Mall and the surrounding Benjamin Plaza shopping center to be replaced by the stadium, a 12-field tournament-style soccer complex, a 250-room hotel, up to 1.1 million square feet of retail space and up to 1.7 million square feet of office space in the 467-acre area. The plan also calls for creating a $10 million neighborhood benefit district, with $2 million advanced up front by the developer, which would provide grants, loans and other assistance for commercial and residential property owners near the development site."

New England Revolution - Talking process.

Philadelphia - In a bid to become an expansion city. Philadelphia has unveiled a proposal for a new football specific stadium for a possible new MLS team. It total, the stadium will cost $115 million. Delaware County officials have already pledged $30 million to the project, but the team's ownership group still needs the state of Pennsylvania to contribute $40 million or the deal will not work. "But this stadium will not be used for soccer alone, as a proposed Delaware County Sports Authority would own it along with the land. They hope to use it for concerts, football games and high school graduation ceremonies. They also plan for it to anchor 'an additional $400 million development project that would include a mix of retail, office and residential construction.'" Planned opening date scheduled for 2010 if everything is approved and a new MLS team is granted to the city.

St. Louis - In the same boat as Philadelphia to become an expansion city. St. Louis has unveiled a proposal for a new football specific stadium for a possible new MLS team. An 18,500-seat soccer-specific stadium and urban development with retail, office and residential space has been proposed.
