Jurgen Klinsmann will take over as coach of Bayern Munich from next season, the club announced on Friday.

The former Germany boss will take over from Ottmar Hitzfeld, who is set to step down from the post at the end of the current campaign.

A statement on Bayern's official website, www.fcbayern.de, read: "Former Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann will succeed Ottmar Hitzfeld as Bayern head coach on July 1, 2008."

The appointment marks Klinsmann's first foray into club coaching after he guided host nation Germany to third place in the 2006 World Cup.

The 43-year-old won 108 caps for his country and was captain for the successful Euro 96 campaign.

Klinsmann enjoyed a successful stint with Bayern between 1995 and 1997, winning UEFA Cup and Bundesliga honours.

Hes untried at club level but he did a goo job with Germany so Id imagine he should be a good appointment.

Back to topic would be enough Wink Laughing

Well, the supporters of FC Bayern München are not enthusiastic about this transfer. There are still angry because Klinsmann choose Jens Lehmann for the german keeper during the WM, and not the old legend Oliver Kahn.
Furthermore Klinsmann kicked Sepp Maier from his position as goalkeeper trainer for the national team, because Sepp Maier said definite, Lehmann hasn't a chance to be the number 1 in the nationalteam.

I heard Beckenbauer wasnt overly confident with him either. Read earlier this week that hes not sure Klinsmann will be the right choice. Hardly a promising way to start his time at the club..

Yes, for sure.
A warm welcome looks different.

Edit:
Martin Vasques will assist Klinsmann at FC Bayern Munich.
