Would you like to see the likes of Wrexham,Cardiff City,Swansea City,Newport County and Colwyn Bay back in the Welsh FA Cup.

Well I for one would, but they should not be allowed to play in the English FA Cup as in the past this has devalued ours, I feel that they would generate much need cash for all clubs they play against and for that reason we should scrap the Premier Cup and bring the exiled 6 clubs back into the fold.

I wouldnt mind this because it would be easy access to the Uefa Cup every year !! And then the financial package in the end would be great !

Ok,

if you put Cardiff, merthyr, Newport, Wrexham and Swansea back in the Welsh leagues it would be like putting Liverpool in it now. Cardiff are now classed as an English clun because we are in teh English pyramid ! It's not for the money, its for good football, if Dundee, Rangers, Celtic or Hibs could become a team in the English pyramid they would jump straight at it. Its a bigger league, more money and better reputation for the club. If Cardiff were in the Welsh leagues they would be completely poo ! All there players would go ! There would be no income and we would have to shut down Ninian Park because we wouldnt have the finances to keep it open. if a club have true ambition then they wouldnt want to play in the Welsh league.

To be perfectly honest with you, this isnt 100% correct.
If Cardiff ever qualified for Europe through the English pyramid, they have been told that they will not be able to reprisent the English League in European Competition. At the moment, there is no route into Europe for Cardiff or any of the other Welsh clubs in the English pyramid.

I agree that its harsh, but if they let Cardiff do it, it will open the floodgates worldwide.

My view on this subject still has not changed, we cannot now devalue our major cup competition for teams that have chosen to play in the English set-up, and we should not allow them two bites of the cherry.

Only just spotted this thread GWB. In some ways I think lines should be drawn.
I'd prefer us to have a strong Welsh league, with all teams in Wales playing as the English set-up is, but we'd end up with Cardiff walking it every year and everyone else with no chance.
I live in Colwyn Bay who choose to play in England. Unlike when teams like Borough United (from about 3 miles from where I live now, and half a mile from where I used to live when I first saw them play) won the Welsh cup over 40 years ago, with many local players, most teams aren't local any more, just as they are not local in England.
Although I was born in Colwyn Bay, I've never even considered going to watch them play as they are, to my mind, an English team playing on a ground in Wales.
Even if we go back to the old days when all and sundry could enter the Welsh Cup, it was still amazing when teams like Borough U and Bangor could win it and qualify for Europe when, eg, Cardiff didn't Wink
BTW, the first European Cup-Winners game I ever saw was at Bangor Very Happy
Sorry if I've been rambling here, just thinking on my feet (well, ar*e actually, as I'm sitting down) Laughing

So, yes, let's not devalue our Cup Wink

Of course these teams should be eligable, they are welsh based and they also play football allbeit some better than others. If they win the Welsh Cup that obviously means they are better than the others even if they are only semi-professional. As a football fan I would rather watch Cardiff (ouch) play Barcelona than Caersws or similar - get real

It's been quite confusing over the years Rc.

There are currently 3 Welsh teams playing in the English leagues (Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham), and they used to enter both the English and Welsh FA cups.

There were English teams near the border (such as Chester and Shrewsbury) that used to enter the Welsh cup too.

But a couple of years ago, all teams had to make their mind up whether they wanted to be part of Welsh or English set-up Wink

Another reason for Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Newport & Merthyr to take part in the FA Cup Rc is that they all compete in the English leagues.

I dont see why we should play in the Welsh cup. If I had to choose it would be the FA Cup every time.

My feelings on the matter is this.

Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham are Welsh not English Clubs. So they should not be able to qualify for Europe through the FA Cup or the Premiership. After all

1. Wellington Phoenix cannot qualify for the Asian Champions League through the A-League as they are an NZ club.

2. English winners of the Welsh Cup could not qualify for Europe.

Welsh clubs cannot enjoy have two bites of the cherry. Personally I think that Merthyr, Colwyn Bay and Newport County are mad to stay in the English system. They will never make the Football League. South East and North West of England clubs are just far better resourced. Give up Merthyr, Colwyn Bay and Newport County and go to the Welsh Leagues.
