Ghana Vs Guinea

The first game of this years tournament is currently at half time with the score 0-0. So far, it has been a fairly cagey, nervy exchange with the quality of football and first touch of players on both sides fluctuating wildly. The length of the grass inside the Stadium is disgracefully long, around ankle deep i would say, and is certainly disrupting the players. Ghana have controlled the game against a very nervous Guinea side and have struck the woodwork on three occasions through Essien, Gyan and Agogo. Guinea have had little of the ball and have not played well.

1-0 to Ghana! A goal at last, a penalty won by Agogo and hammered home by Asamoah Gyan of Udinese.

Took them long enough to score, they've had plenty of chances.

All over in Accra and the opening game of the tournament finishes well for the host nation, Ghana 2-1 Guinea. A poor game overall, very nervy and cagey whilst the atrociously long grass clearly disrupted the flow of the game. Ghana controlled the game and should have won this by a far more comfortable scoreline. Guinea offered virtually nothing and were lucky to have caught Ghana on such an off day.

Well what a cracker opener.

The opening festival was nice and I was getting into it, then I saw the state of the pitch.

The ball wasn't the easiest to see either and that with high grass and blotchy parts, it looked a nightmare to play on. The first 20mins was a case of every player having a few touches and competing with the conditions more than anything.

Things improved and all along the atmosphere was superb. The whole place was rocking and you could see the fire in everyone of the players - except Agogo - you could just see hunger in his eyes.

Ghana always had control in the first half and showed all the qualities in attack. Feindouna was the only real threat on the counter-attack for Guinea and when he did counter, Bangoura often wasted it terribly. But there were some good battles all around the pitch and it was a fairly entertaining game. If you take into consideration the state of the pitch, then the game was excellent.

Kalabane's header hit the bar and bounced in off Kingston. A little bit lucky, but they deserved it for their fight-back and the spirit they showed. But Ghana deserved to go on and win it as they created the best chances and controlled most of the game. Nice strike by Muntari.

In France we have seen a report about Ghana and their supporters, here we put Ghana as the favourite, it's true they had a good team in the World Cup 2006 but it's football nobody really knows who will win.

I have doubts over their capabilities to be honest. Having the backing of the home fans could be a burden also if they continue to perform poorly, as they are known to get on the players backs.

just remeber portugal euro 2004...they were the hosts and look what happend to them.

I just have doubts that Ghana can go all the way.
