well...it really was a no contest from start to finish , West Ham Ladies were pretty poor in my opinion and the game was an exercise for our girls to see who could score and how many we could score ..in the end it was 8 although it could and should have been at least 10 ...Lianne Sanderson guilty of a few bad shots ...not the only one though , Karen Carney shot horribly wide and Alex Scott missed a great chance , think about 3 or 4 ball were booted out the ground ..

It was easy to see the difference in ability and class , the Arsenal Ladies passing the ball skillfully and with purpose ...most times if Kelly Smith passed to Rachel Yankey she would get the ball and the same for nearly all the girls . Good movement by all the girls and used both the left and right wings to try and find openings in the game ...i think old Ken was shouting it was not up to the usual standard by the girls ...keep it simple..you can never please everyone ... Smile

With the West Ham girls it was more a case of pass the ball and hope a teammate recieved it , or pump the ball forward and a West Ham girl will try to get it . Arsenal Ladies only had to wait a few passes before they had the ball again .

Now the score was 8-1 ...yes West Ham did score ...a great shot that looped over Rebecca Spencer when they had a break on goal ...Shji who i met at half time mentioned Emma Bryne would probably have saved it ...oh well . Wink

So the goals ...cracking shots by Kelly Smith ..a great curling shot by Mary Philips ...only her second ever goal i believe , a penalty well taken by Lianne Sanderson ...a nice header ..own goal by a West Ham defender ... a mix up in the West Ham penalty area allowed Rachel Yankey to score to an unguarded goal....oops Smile

One funny moment ...the West Ham goalie rushed out to clear a threat on goal and booted the ball towards the Ladies toilet ..it thumped against the wall right next to the open door ..just as a lady was coming out ... she would have been knocked for six if it had hit her ... Laughing

A good match ..although one sided ....Arsenal Ladies march on .. Cool

I am sure Emma would have saved the goal because she is taller than Becky. There is nothing wrong withe goalie skils she is as good as Emma but she is smaller and it is a problem for goalkeepers or any position on the pitch. We have some good players in the reserve but the girls are quite small compared to the first teamers as the girls are about 162 to 168 cm tall while our seniros are like 172 to 185 or more

well i think to be a goalkeeper ..height would be one thing a club must look at when signing players ...no good having a 3ft midget between the posts .. Wink

i just remembered something about this match , during the second half Lianne Sanderson had a chance of a goal when clear and just hit it wide ...should have scored really . As she ended up running into the back of the net ...she was heard uttering the word `f` word and her face said it all ...wish i had my camera at the time ...would have been a great picture , shocking language though .. Wink

I'm very much OT here - but Lianne Sanderson was happier than I've ever seen her before, at Blackburn - really big smiles after the game.

But, it was her birthday Wink
