Bah you got me.
Really? I thought it'd be... Quarter's: Winner of Group A vs. Runner-up of Group B Winner of Group B vs. Runner-up of Group A Winner of Group C vs. Runner-up of Group D (Netherlands) Winner of Group D vs. Runner-up of Group C (Spain) Semi's: Winner of Match 1 vs. Winner of Match 4 (Spain) Winner of Match 2 vs. Winner of Match 3 (Netherlands) Else you could have a semi's with teams from the same group playing each other, whereas - with the Euro 2004 - we've seen teams from the same group meeting in the final (Portugal, Greece). From what i can gather, Spain and the Netherlands can only meet in the quarters or the final. To be honest, i think the format is such that any combination of teams can make up the final. |

The format will be different than Euro 2004 Quarters 1 )WA vs RB 2) WB vs RA 3) WC vs RD 4) WD vs RC Semifinals 1) vs 2) 3) vs 4) This way teams from block A-B can't meet any team from block C-D untill the final That's also the reason i'm worried Germany might have an easy path till final.... the biggest threat they have is Portugal, while we have France-Netherlands-Spain |

Aww that sucks. Well it doesn't, because it means you refrain from an anti-climactic final in having two teams who've already played meeting again. But it does if you're cheering on two sides from the same half of the draw...
It sucks because there is no team mix at all... It's highly possible we'll see both semifinals with teams which already played vs each others |

That's true, but it is better than having a final of teams that have already played each other. With that being the centrepiece and all.
There's nothing worse than a team say comprehensively beating another team in the groups and then meeting against in the final. The two teams aren't playing for the first time and it takes a serious edge off of the spectacle - so in that respect it's a wise move. Although i suppose the chances of them meeting is highly increased with them being able to in the semi's rather than the final (with one less round for them to get knocked out in). |
