CRB - Criminal Records Bureau. Its basically a background check that anyone working with children or vulnerable adults must undergo. You will need to provide various forms of i.d such as driving licence, passport, birth certificate, bank statement. It is possible to go through the FA, but i would suggest approching a local school instead as they will have all the forms and details you need. Also they may not charge you if they were to benefit from some free coaching which would also benefit you with regards to completing your session time. If you were to be charged the cheapest ive seen it for is £51 for an enhanced CRB which is what most people would ask you for. That cost is if you are going to receive paid work as a result of it. If You do not intend to receive payment for work then the cost is £15 which is basically the administration fee as i understand it. THe following link should be useful. http://crb.gov.uk/ |

Cheers Strass.
I read on FA website it takes around 4-5 weeks. That's a bit of a pain. Seems judging by your advice that I should contact a local junior club and offer my services as un-paid volunteer, and that they will have all info/forms to aply for a CRB. If I were to contact 2 clubs and have the potential to coach at both would I require two CRB applications (& pay twice)? Scholesy |

Thats a same kind of set up we have. We have a thing called a disclosure which you would send out and get a reply "takes forever".

A junior club arent likely to have the forms as their coaches more than likely went through the fa although they might have some forms but i doubt it. Go through a school instead as you can offer them your services and im sure there would be plenty that are sympathetic to your cause since they too would benefit. Generally speaking you only need to have the 1 CRB. I say generally because i work for 2 different councils despite the fact that schools represented are only a few miles apart there is no guarantee that 1 will accept the others disclosure despite the fact that all disclosures regardless of which body is applying for 1 on your behalf end up at the same home office department for checking. In theory If you coached in 10 different schools then each school could ask for its own disclosure but if they asked for them then you wouldnt be charged. The reality is that as long as you have an original CRB(not a photo copy) that is still valid - less than 3 years old then 1 per council should suffice. As an example If you suddenly got a job with social services then they would also ask for a disclosure but they would pay. As a final note the turnaround for them being sent off and returned can be as little as 2 - 3 weeks or as long as 2 - 3 months it all depends on the demand ie the demand is very high in the run up to the new school year starting in september with taechers changing schools etc. |
