AZ CONTINUE POOR FORM |
|
AZ Alkmaar's poor form continued with a goalless draw at home to FC Twente.
The hosts picked up only their second point from eight games, a run which has seen start to lose touch even with the UEFA Cup play-off places. Their opponents meanwhile have slipped to eighth after a poor run of their own, now with four points from a possible 18. Twente did create the first chance of the game on nine minutes, defender Rob Wielaert firing a low drive from 20 yards that AZ goalkeeper Sergio Romero parried round the post. AZ then had several chances to open the scoring. Demy De Zeeuw shot over from 12 yards after being set up by Moussa Dembele on the right after 15 minutes. An almost identical move saw De Zeeuw hit the target on 24 minutes, but his weak effort was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Sander Boschker. Hector Moreno had a powerful 12-yard strike for AZ blocked by Boschker after 59 minutes, and the home side again failed to finish a good chance a minute later when David Mendes' attempted lob from 12 yards, after losing his marker, was easily caught by Boschker. Twente had their second and final good chance on 68 minutes. Romano Denneboom broke forward but his 12-yard strike was parried by Romero, as the game got bogged down in midfield. Poor AZ |
