Mold Alexandra may be relegated from the Cymru Alliance League, but the side will bounch back within a season, as they have recently appointed Tony Merola the ex-Wrexham player as there Manager.

Merola has be quick to bring players in and several have done very well including Gary Burns (ex-Flint Town Utd), James McInosh (ex-Airbus UK) and Matty Dabbs, all these players represent a sound approach and all have finished this season well.

Burns has made 7 starts, McIntosh 4 and Dabbs a sub appearence, in Dabbs case the season was over bar an odd game that work coursed him to miss. Burns is a very bright prospect and at 17 looks good for the future, our keeper Stu Bidwell is not far off being a great goalkeeper.

Alyn Park fans maybe watching Welsh National League football next season, but we are not ones for giving up as once we knew we where down we started the re-building programme that will see us play an American College side in a pre-season friendly before the start of 2005-2006.

Mold have started the new season with a 4-3 loss to Ruthin Town Reserves at home, we then went out of the FAW Trophy to Llandudno Junction by 2-1, having lead 1-0.

The side then won at home 5-1 against Llay Welfare (27 August 2005), with Gary Burns 2, Terry Pughe 2 and Dave Pitson the marksmen before Llay got a late goal.

Oops, twmcat! Not quite.

Although the great Borough United played in Llandudno Junction (at the opposite end) they were quite separate.

Have a look at:
http://www.wfda.co.uk/feature_boroughutd.php

The way Borough United folded was quite disgraceful. The above article reveals all.

Thanks for the link hyfrydle - I always think of them as Llandudno Junction as that's where I used to live, just across the field to the ground.

But I notice that the article mentions that mergers were mooted, but scuppered, but I remember a Llandudno Borough side around 1970, I think. Perhaps you could clarify, as you obviously have done more research (or have a better memory) than I have.

Incidentally, I see Borough conceded a goal scored by Moravcik in their final European game, and there was I thinking that our mod was a young bloke Very Happy

Yes, I've come across mention of a Llandudno Borough side in 1969/70 and this would be just when the remnants of Borough United were struggling in the Vale Of Conwy league and for the last two years when they were away from their Nant-y-Coed ground. Perhaps they played in Llandudno? (Oval, perhaps?)

Did Borough United take on this name for their last season's existence?

A Llandudno Borough did play Chester City in Round 5 of the Welsh Cup on 14 January 1970 and lost 6 - 0.

Anyone interested in football history of the area, including Borough United, should look at:
http://www.soccerscrapbook.co.uk/north%20wales/page2.html

It's amazing that even very recent soccer history in the area was just not recorded at the time. Nobody bothered.

At the time of the Borough United v Slovan Bratislava game, December 1963, Moravcik was 32 years old.

I think Llandudno Borough played at the old Llandudno ground which was demolished to make way for ASDA, near Conwy Road. I saw a charity game there in 1971, so it was still used then. It was definitely demolished by the summer of 1974 at the latest.
And I seem to remeber that the local feeling was that Llandudno had just grabbed Borough's name as an add-on to help promote their own dismal existence.

Also, I remember a report in the North Wales Weekly News describing a game. It reckoned there were more people in the stand than on the pitch, and spent most of the article talking about one of the people watching the game. I remember this particularly as he was an old teacher of mine who had had a good career as an amateur goalkeeper, I believe. I'm not exactly sure when this game was played though.

BTW, Moravcik must be the oldest mod here then, 74 now Laughing

In 1969 some Borough United officials joined Llandudno which was renamed Llandudno Borough.

Llandudno Borough was in the Welsh Cup 1969/70 and 1971/72 but not apparently the intervening season.

The Borough suffix was dropped shortly afterwards.

And the Council Field ground was developed for ASDA shortly after that.
