Nigel Worthington has dismissed claims he is planning a major clear-out during the summer following Norwich's relegation from the Barclays Premiership.
The Norfolk club have already released Phil Mulryne, Marc Edworthy, Graham Stuart and youngster Danny Crow - whose contracts all expired at the end of the season. Winger Paul McVeigh has also been made available for transfer, while midfielder David Bentley was on a year-long from Arsenal and is set to return to Highbury. However, suggestions the likes of Simon Charlton, Gary Doherty and Thomas Helveg are set to also leave Carrow Road, and that Damien Francis, Robert Green and Dean Ashton are all targets for big-money transfers back to the top flight have been refuted by the Canaries boss. "All the players that I am releasing have already been released. Everybody else will be here for next season," insisted Worthington in the Eastern Daily Press. "I'm expecting all of them to be reporting back for training in late June, early July." Norwich have, meanwhile, reported a high demand for season tickets, despite the Canaries' relegation to the Coca-Cola Championship. Some 19,100 season-tickets have already been sold, and with around 2,000 fans on the waiting list, that figure looks certain to rise to the cut-off point of 20,200 next month. Norwich's director of sales and marketing Andrew Cullen commented: "I think it's fair to assume that we will be very busy again next season - but I would like to stress that tickets will still be set aside for casual sale before every match." |
