He's alrite he's a good finisher Ronaldo thats it. Messi is the man. Also I think Torres has to get mention aswell.

I would've picked Ronaldo over Kaka last year. I think he was easily the best player in the world. Same for this year!

I thought Ronaldo was better last year.
Now, i think he absolutely obliterates him. |

I watch plenty of Man U games, here in Aussie every Premiership game is available to watch, when they are on at the same time you have the choice of which one to watch. When Spurs arent on I usually watch Man U, partly to see Ronaldo but mostly cos of the football they play, unless theres a good match on.
I think it is presumptuous and a bit patronising to write off everyones opinions that are different to your own as being because they only watch highlights (O Dogg) or from media hype (CFCBhoy) People are quite capable of making up their own minds on issues like this and just because they are different to yours doenst make them invalid for some reason like that. Ever considered YOU might be the one that is wrong? Also, ive noticed most of those in this thread shooting down others opinions on who is the best havent even given their own opinions. Atleast we are putting our balls to the wall and making a decision for the sake of the topic, not just shooting down others offerings. |

Well said Jono.
I'm assuming your pick is Ronaldo Jono? Or haven't you put your balls on the line? I can't be bothered to check the first page. |

Yea I think Ronaldo is the best, ive thought about it for a while but started saying it on here a few months ago.
Was told then it was only good form, but seeing as this form seems to be permanent now the other arguments are coming out that im only basing it on imperfect information, of which people like O Dogg obviously has access to better information on the subject to me. |

easy mate.. =) o dogg has a point.. we can't really decide if we just stick to the highlights where only good parts are shown.. kaka is no longer the best as he can't do much to his team.. the best player should refer to someone with consistent performance in each match.. score goals or do passings to win matches.. ronaldo is close enough to the definition at the moment.. |

Your missing the point mate. You speak with a majority of Manchester United fans who see the games, and most will tell you that he isnt even the best player in the Manchester United squad. I would say Rooney was a more important player for us, and Evra in my opinion has been our player of the season so far - but no point in getting into that debate. Ronaldo isn't a team player at all, yes he scores a bag full of goals, but so what? So did Thierry Henry and you aswell as many others still slated Henry for not performing in the big games. Nobody apart from Arsenal fans rated him as the best player in the world - why not? Because he played for Arsenal? I would go as far as saying Henry in his prime at Arsenal was a better all round player than Ronaldo is right now. I also mentioned that I believed most people on here who think Ronaldo is the best player in the world probably only watch the highlights - which I stick by. Sticky T doesn't even watch the Liverpool games, so what are the chances of him sitting down and watching United? Ronaldo probably will win the Player of the Year however...I have no doubt. They love a Ronaldo type player. I don't know who is the best player in the world to tell you the truth though. Kaka is still an amazing player, and is still right up there - but the chips are down at Milan, they are 5th in the league, and when a team isn't winning, players don't stand out. If Ronaldo was in a Liverpool team, I am almost certain people wouldn't be calling him the best player in the world - but that is not something I can prove. It is not about not having the balls to nominate a player myself, as how can I possibly do that without watching equal amounts of each player? I voted Kaka last year as I actually got to see alot of him, and he was outstanding compared to anyone else out there. This season I haven't seen so much of him, and same goes for Messi. I haven't seen enough of him to see where he is at compared to the others. What I have seen though is Ronaldo. I have seen him week in week out. Some games he has been outstanding, others he has been terrible. He is one of the most frustrating players to watch throughout a game. I like him very much, and wouldn't want him to leave us, however I think alot of people do over rate him slightly. Would you say I was wrong in making the assumption that the majority of fans who rate Ronaldo as the best player in the world, would only get to see the highlights of his games? |

To add to this, Ronaldo may score alot of goals, but anyone who says he assists alot of incorrect. He very rarely sets up goals these days. Only 3 Assists in the league this season. When you compare that with the likes of Fabregas who has 13 Assists, you can see the difference. Ronaldo isn't a team player, he prefers to go alone which is why he gets so many goals.
Guti has had an outstanding season so far for Real Madrid, but nobody mentions him. Why? Because he has only scored 5 goals and is a totally different type player. He has however 22 assists to his name in 19 league games. To me, that is every bit as impressive as Ronaldo's goals. |

Fair enough O Dogg but seeing as you watch Ronaldo week in week out you do get to see his flat games and the parts of his performances that frustrate you and other fans. However you admit that you havent seen much at all of Kaka and Messi etc (im not saying ive seen much more) but if you had do you think you would have a lot more ammunition for taking points off their highlight reels?
I know you arent saying one of them is the best but you are saying Ronaldo isnt based on the inconsistencies youve witnessed every week, when you dont know if any other player in the world is any better. Ronaldo isnt perfect but it doesnt mean hes not the best as noone is, he just has to be better than the others overall. Damn i rambled. Anywho, and i have no idea as to the relation of those who think hes the best and those who dont as to which ones watch highlights and which ones watch full games, i dont see a pattern here so cant say. |

It isn't a matter of me having amunition mate - I am just stating my opinion on what I see. This is why I cannot say who is best - but it frustrates me when people go on about his goals etc, and using that criteria alone to cast judgement on how great he has been this season. Sticky is the first to jump up and down slating the Media if they go OTT with their judement of Rooney, but they do the exact same thing with Ronaldo and he doesn't batter an eyelid. These are the things that frustrate me as he is a classic example of those fans out there that do not watch the games in full...if he did, then he would see that Ronaldo is very rarely man of the match for United.
It all depends on what you think the question should be. Player of the Season is different to Best player in the World also. Ronaldo to me isn't Manchester Uniteds player of the season, however I have no doubt he will land the award. He hasn't been our best player this season, so therefore in my opinion hasn't been the world player of the year. |

I suppose you would have to watch the top players week in week out to make a completely fair judgement, however I do watch United 95% of the time, not just highlights. My opinion is based on the fact that in my short lifetime I have very rarely seen players perform at this level consistantly before.
Ronaldo may make mistakes, but everyone does. He is a player who takes many risks with the ball and more often than not he pulls it off. Other players wouldn't even consider attempting some of the stuff Ronaldo gets up to because they just aren't that good. He is the most skillful player in the world and I have never seen a player turn defence into attack the way he does... ever! I believe he is the one player the opposition fear most, and this is why he is the best. |

Ok i got you. But say Kaka played for Chelsea and Messi for Liverpool. Then youd probably get to see all of them every week not just hear reports from Europe, then IN MY OPINION youd see the failings of those players too, not just Ronaldos. |

Ronaldo hands down is the best player in the world.. personally I thought he was the best player last year... Kaka won it based on 3 or 4 good games in the CL.. (he had a crap season in serie A). Plus Ronaldo is a far more rounded player who contributes a lot more to every game. This is coming from a Liverpool fan who worships the ground Stevie G walks on... but even I will admit Ronaldo is even a class above him.

I would not say that Christiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world. I wouldnt even say he is the best player in the Manchester United team. For me that nod goes to Rooney_79586.shtml'>Wayne Rooney.
I think the thing we have to think about is that currently he is playing the best football in the world, but that does not make him the best player out and out. For me the best plyer should be able to perform against the very best teams, and on the big occasions. When did Ronaldo last play well against either Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Apart from against a poor Roma, when did he shine on the European stage? I cant think of any time time. Someone said how can he expect to perform against the best if they mark him or put few players on him, what a load of [beep!]! I cant believe what i am hearing. The best players in the world are always, and always have been marked closely and in numbers. The true greats up their game. Messi for example, who i rate very very highly, more so than Ronaldo, play well against the very best teams even when they double up on him. He got a hat-trick against Real madrid for example. Played amazing against Chelsea on few occasions. The best thrive on the big stage. Against the lower standard of clubs he destroys them, no question, but he needs to do it V the best. There is no debating his tallent, i am not trying to put him down at all. He is one of the most dangerous players around. However, there are parts of his game i think he needs to work on. One of them is obviously performing against the very best, but another one i think is his team mentality. He is not a team player. There are number of times when team mates might be in a better position than him, but he simply ignores them trying to beat a couple of players before he will pass the ball. It is all about Ronaldo in his head. When teams double up on him, surely the clever thing to do would be to feed other dangerous United players when he has the ball as opponants will be out of position? But does he, nope. He would be a better player i was more of a team player For me, Manchester United struggle more without Rooney than ronaldo. |

That's because Rooney is more of a true footballer. He can balance his game when necessary. When Man Utd are under the thumb or not playing too well, Ronaldo can't turn up. He waits for counter-attacks and in some instances when games are tight he gets greedy in those situations as well.
Rooney is more of a true footballer in the sense he can mix it up, get gritty and do the ugly work. He does the basics better than Ronaldo and this is more important to a team. Ronaldo is more of a match-winner, and that's what most football fans love. They love the match-winners and the flair players so Ronaldo is obviously going to be rated very highly and the stats support his cause. I don't think he sees the game like some of the real greats and I don't think he is the best. But each to their own. |

That's plain to see. Every defeat United have had this season, bar yesterday, Rooney hasn't played. The english media seem determined to remind us this at every occassion.
