It isn't a matter of me having amunition mate - I am just stating my opinion on what I see. This is why I cannot say who is best - but it frustrates me when people go on about his goals etc, and using that criteria alone to cast judgement on how great he has been this season. Sticky is the first to jump up and down slating the Media if they go OTT with their judement of Rooney, but they do the exact same thing with Ronaldo and he doesn't batter an eyelid. These are the things that frustrate me as he is a classic example of those fans out there that do not watch the games in full...if he did, then he would see that Ronaldo is very rarely man of the match for United.
It all depends on what you think the question should be. Player of the Season is different to Best player in the World also. Ronaldo to me isn't Manchester Uniteds player of the season, however I have no doubt he will land the award. He hasn't been our best player this season, so therefore in my opinion hasn't been the world player of the year. |

Ok i got you. But say Kaka played for Chelsea and Messi for Liverpool. Then youd probably get to see all of them every week not just hear reports from Europe, then IN MY OPINION youd see the failings of those players too, not just Ronaldos. |

Ronaldo hands down is the best player in the world.. personally I thought he was the best player last year... Kaka won it based on 3 or 4 good games in the CL.. (he had a crap season in serie A). Plus Ronaldo is a far more rounded player who contributes a lot more to every game. This is coming from a Liverpool fan who worships the ground Stevie G walks on... but even I will admit Ronaldo is even a class above him.

I would not say that Christiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world. I wouldnt even say he is the best player in the Manchester United team. For me that nod goes to Rooney_79586.shtml'>Wayne Rooney.
I think the thing we have to think about is that currently he is playing the best football in the world, but that does not make him the best player out and out. For me the best plyer should be able to perform against the very best teams, and on the big occasions. When did Ronaldo last play well against either Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Apart from against a poor Roma, when did he shine on the European stage? I cant think of any time time. Someone said how can he expect to perform against the best if they mark him or put few players on him, what a load of [beep!]! I cant believe what i am hearing. The best players in the world are always, and always have been marked closely and in numbers. The true greats up their game. Messi for example, who i rate very very highly, more so than Ronaldo, play well against the very best teams even when they double up on him. He got a hat-trick against Real madrid for example. Played amazing against Chelsea on few occasions. The best thrive on the big stage. Against the lower standard of clubs he destroys them, no question, but he needs to do it V the best. There is no debating his tallent, i am not trying to put him down at all. He is one of the most dangerous players around. However, there are parts of his game i think he needs to work on. One of them is obviously performing against the very best, but another one i think is his team mentality. He is not a team player. There are number of times when team mates might be in a better position than him, but he simply ignores them trying to beat a couple of players before he will pass the ball. It is all about Ronaldo in his head. When teams double up on him, surely the clever thing to do would be to feed other dangerous United players when he has the ball as opponants will be out of position? But does he, nope. He would be a better player i was more of a team player For me, Manchester United struggle more without Rooney than ronaldo. |

That's because Rooney is more of a true footballer. He can balance his game when necessary. When Man Utd are under the thumb or not playing too well, Ronaldo can't turn up. He waits for counter-attacks and in some instances when games are tight he gets greedy in those situations as well.
Rooney is more of a true footballer in the sense he can mix it up, get gritty and do the ugly work. He does the basics better than Ronaldo and this is more important to a team. Ronaldo is more of a match-winner, and that's what most football fans love. They love the match-winners and the flair players so Ronaldo is obviously going to be rated very highly and the stats support his cause. I don't think he sees the game like some of the real greats and I don't think he is the best. But each to their own. |

That's plain to see. Every defeat United have had this season, bar yesterday, Rooney hasn't played. The english media seem determined to remind us this at every occassion.

Man, are you really that much of an idiot? Do you not remember all the threads i made about Ronaldo getting a royal ass licking because of all the tricks, and Drogba actually being the better player last season despite the hype and attention surrounding Ronaldo? I've moaned about the hype Ronaldo gets loads of times. But the fact is, he has dug you out of the sh*t countless times, more than any other player in his position i can think of. I terms of goals and creating something out of nothing, he has done it more than anyone else on your team. By a long way. As for Rooney being more important, and Evra having a better season. I don't understand how people can say Rooney is more important, because they've rarely had to to get by without Ronaldo. The guy just doesn't get injured! When he was banned for head butting they REALLY struggled though. I don't think you would've been anywhere near the title last season without Ronaldo though. Whereas Rooney, plenty could've done what he did. As for Evra. Well he is fantastic, and certainly has been more consistent than Ronaldo. I'm not going into this though, i don't have the time, but i will say Ronaldo job isn't to be consistent, he's a flare player. He does the magical things far more regularly than most players like him, so on that basis, he isn't that inconsistent. As for scoring, his is very, very, very consistent for someone in his position. Assists have dried up though. |

kaka' last year has been the best, and no one can discuss it because milan won the CL thanks to him
for now Messi is the best, no doubt about it, the fake Ronaldo is only an arrogant moron who thinks to be a superstar, and against the big ones he usually plays like a chicken |

So was Ronaldo in Gattuso's pocket in the 2 most important Man Utd games last season. And Kaká wasnt [beep!] at the final. He did had problems with Mascherano, but when Liverpool forgot about him for 1minute he settled the result putting Inzaghi in front of the goal. Thats what the best players do, not hide themselves like Ronaldo always do in the main games |

These sort of discussions are so easy to manipulate to back up each indiivduals argument. For example, yes Kaka was quiet in the last champs league final, but ultimately assisted the two goals which won the cup for milan. However, people on here critisize Steven Gerrard for the same thing, saying he will be quiet in a game yet produces a piece of magic be that a great pass or a stunning goal, and he is labeled a one trick pony that cant dominate a game. I remember having this disucssion with a certian member on this forum, who i wont name. I said kaka was poor in the final. He argued that ultimately he made 2 important contributions which won them the game, this is true. Yet this same person will have a go at gerrard for being quiet in a game and making and still making an improtant contribution to the outcome of the match. Double standards. |

It was the CR7 link mate...
As for Sticky T - you have jumped on the bandwagon simple as that. As I said it continues week in week out. Ronaldo is very rarely the best player on the pitch, however the media cream over him, especially on Match of the Day - yet you say nothing. When the same happens with Rooney, you slate them. Whether you made topics in the past slating Ronaldo or not is irrelevant. I am pointing out that you are clearly hypocritical....you hate Rooney and have pounce on the media whenever they go OTT with praising him, however the same happens with Ronaldo and you don't say a word. I find that highly amusing. Now my little Spanish Grappling cage fighting beast - Liverpool are playing tomorrow night in an important European game against Inter Milan. It is on Sky Sports 2 at 7.30pm. Just thought you might want to know just incase you plan something else |

I think it's generally accepted that the three star candidates for the title of best player in the world (from an attacking point of view) are Kaka, Messi and Ronaldo.
Personally, I would have either of the South Americans over Ronaldo for one clear reason: decision making. Ronaldo plays for himself. Sure, he's brilliant at ghosting past defenders and creating space, but a lot of the time he shoots for goal instead of laying the ball off to the man who's free. Kaka and Messi play more the team - the decisions they make on the pitch are generally more correct than those that Ronaldo would make. Ronaldo is a world class player though, no doubt and deserves to be considered. PS - Doggster: you've made several excellent and honest posts in this thread, and it's refreshing that even though you're a Man Utd fan you can see the reality |

Ok United haven't lost a game when Rooney has played.. but the question is how many games would of United won if Ronaldo wasn't playing? People are crazy to even think Rooney is in the same class as Ronaldo right now in my opinion... considering Ronaldo isn't a striker he has scored twice as many as Rooney, that says it all.

Ok then fine but please don't tell me Rooney contributes more to a game than Ronaldo.. 90% of Uniteds play goes through him.. I think without him they would be lost most of the time. |
