West Ham United are being lined up to face the MLS AllStars team in Toronto this summer.

The Hammers are set to face the AllStars - a team comprised of the best players from USA's Major League Soccer - on Thursday, July 24th in Toronto, Canada.

The AllStars - who feature players such as former Aston Villa Star Juan Pablo Angel (New York Red Bulls), Dwayne De Rosario (aka D-Ro, Houston Dynamo) and Cuauhtémoc Blanco (Chicago Fire) - play one prestige fixture per season which, in the last three seasons, has been against a team from the UK.

Teams to have faced the best of the MLS in previous seasons are Celtic - who were defeated 1-0 in Denver last summer - Chelsea, who lost by the same scoreline in 2006 and Fulham, the first English side to play in the fixture who were defeated 4-1 in 2005.

Toronto's stadium holds a capacity of 20,000, and is considered one of the best footballing venues in North America.

Ahhh yes, I did hear about this on the local Football News. It hasn't been announced or confirmed yet. I remember around November there were talks about it being Liverpool. Guess with all the ownership issues, they decided to scrap that idea for the time being.

And yes, BMO field is definitely one of the best in North America.

The difference is. The MLS will be in mid-season form. While the European teams that have come over are just starting their pre-season tours.

However, now the quality in the MLS is going to be better, so the all-star team will be better then they were last year.

Well, usually MLS get top-tier teams to play to draw crowds. Wink

Let's just say the better-known ones. West Ham actually has a good following here.

Mostly Man U, then Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool... followed by Spurs and West Ham.

Don't forget Celtic. They have a huge following here in the States. I would actually go as far to say they are ahead of Man United in popularity in the States.

That's a tough call..... I think here on the 'left' coast Man U has a huge following....I saw them play in LA in 2003 against Club America and it was like being in another country. I need also say that when Celtic played in Seattle also in 2003 they too had a big crowd..... Wink

Oh, I meant English teams...

But, yeah... HUGE Celtic following in NY as well.. A lot of Milan, Juve, and Barca fans walking around. You see the occasional Real Madrid fan too.

I remember going to the Celtic game. Half the stadium was green and white. Laughing Also went to see Chelsea play, not too many of them around. I have noticed most of the 'new' football fans are Chelsea fans though. Glory hunters (from the past couple of years) and the massive marketing by Chelsea on this side of the pond have done wonders for their following.

Yeah, true that. I have a classmate who said that Liverpool sucks, and I find out that he's a Chelsea fan. I answered with that my captain was better than his captain... He had no clue who the Chelsea captain was. Laughing

In the Adidas store over in Manhattan, it's mainly Chelsea, Liverpool and AC Milan stuff. All the Liverpool items were sold out. Wink They said that the red shirts are their best sellers among any item there...

Makes me wonder where all those people who bought them are... Confused
