Today's game was closely fought, with few clear-cut chances, but both goalkeepers had good performaces and kept a clean sheet for 120 minutes.
The best chance came after about 4 minutes, when Jody Handley was brought down in the area and Fara Williams' penalty kick was saved. It seemed for a long time that a penalty shoot-out was going to decide the outcome, and this proved to be the case. Each of the penalties went into the net, apart from Fara's, which went over the bar - you had to feel so sorry for her. I'd like to say I have some decent pics to show you, but, as usual, they are rubbish - but, while we wait for Ron to post some decent ones tomorrow - here is one showing part of the celebrations after Sue Smith scored the 5th pen for Leeds: |

Yes - but she's not easy to spot when she's surrounded

I'd have felt more sorry for Everton if it wasn't for many of the "fans", who were a total pain in the arse.
I plonked myself in the front row of seats in the stand, but there were people walking backwards and forwards throughout the game. Many of these seemed to be families of the young girls (9 to 11 year olds at a guess) who were playing a little game at half time (7 a side or something). Many of these left before the end of 90 minutes, let alone 120, so they obviously weren't that bothered about the main game. I know they want to encourage people to come to these games, but I'd prefer it if the people who come actually would prefer to watch the football, rather than spend their time going to buy pies and coffee etc. I like Everton, and wanted them to win before the game - but changed to supporting Leeds before the end And it was nice to see the always cheerful Sue Smith being happy with good reason |
